Monthly Devotion by Pastor Craig Muhlbach
“Therefore love is the fulfillment of the Law”
We look up at the night sky, and we see the moon. It is really quite impressive at times. The eclipse this year had us looking to the heavens of God’s creation and we marvel at His marvelous works. Did you know that the moon gets its light from the sun? I’m sure you did. The moon acts like a mirror and
reflects the light of the sun upon the earth. In the same way, the heart of a Christian shines with love as it reflects the love of God. God first loved us and showed his love by sending Jesus to take our sins away. He taught us to believe in his love and his forgiveness when he made us his dear children. As his children, God wants us to reflect his love by showing love to all the people around us. God’s Ten Commandments tell us how we are to show love. They tell us to treat others as we would have them treat us—with respect and compassion. They tell us not to commit adultery, not to kill, not
to steal or be greedy. If we were to sum up all the commands in one word, the word would be “love.” The apostle Paul wrote, “Therefore love is the fulfillment of the Law” (Rom. 13:10)
We often have to decide how we are going to act toward the people around us. Should we shout at
them? Should we hit them? Should we smile at them or frown? The decision gets harder when people are mean to us. The answer to how we will deal with them lies in the commandments. Our sinful heart will want revenge, but those who love God won’t want to obey a sinful heart. They will want to obey God, so they will ask, “what does God want? What is the loving thing to do?
Our world is filled with hatred. Seeking revenge is the order of the day. The Bible tells us to love our
enemies. God will give us the strength to do that. In the life of Jesus, his own dear Son, God shows us how to live according to his will.
Have a blessed summer.

Lutheran SGO Donations
The Lutheran SGO is a scholarship granting organization that provides scholarships to families that mee the income requirements to help them afford the school of their choice for their children. SGOs were enacted in 2009, but have been expanded as part of the 2011 Choice Bill that features a 50-percent state tax credit for contributions made to these SGOs. The funds donated can then be distributed for families that meet income and other requirements. SGO scholarships are funded by charitable donations, not by the state. When making a donation to the SGO, you choose your school that you would like to receive the donation.
