Huskies Have HEART Newsletter
December 3, 2023
Greetings Central Heights Students and Families,
Monday, December 4th is a B-day. Now that winter has settled in, please be sure that your student is dressed for the weather (winter coats, hat, gloves); we send all students outside for recess for a minimum of 10 minutes each day after their lunch. Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter! If there is ever anything you would like to see in our newsletter or questions you have about school that may help other families learn more about school, please be sure to reach out and ask!
School offices and the District Offices will be closed to the public during the week of December 25th-29th.
Here are newsletters for the month of November:
Buy your yearbook through this link: https://shop.yearbookmarket.com/centralheightsmiddleschool
Central Heights Enrichment Opportunities: Students working on NanoWriMo should have 5000 words in the NaNoWriMo website by Nov. 30 to be able to publish their book. This can be their first draft and they will have time for revisions. Math Olympiad math competition, which is new this year, will be open to any student who would like to participate. Math Olympiad is a series of five 30 minute math competitions throughout the year. Math Olympiad is taking the place of the MathCounts competition. We are also getting a team ready for the National Science Bowl competition on Saturday, February 3. Students can sign up for both/either competition on the Central Heights Enrichment Google Classroom. Students can join the Central Heights Enrichment Opportunities Google Classroom by using the code t4vqxm6. Reach out to Renea Boguszewski with any questions, rjbogus@sunprairieschools.org
Bus Delays and Emergencies
- Please remember that buses may be slightly delayed when we are experiencing snow and icy conditions. Anything within 5 minutes of the scheduled arrival time is considered “on time.” If your child’s bus is delayed and/or evacuated for any reason (bus breakdown, emergency, etc.) students must stay with the driver and wait for further instructions. If another bus is dispatched students are to ride that bus and only get off at their assigned stop.
What does the Middle School Student/Family Handbook Say? This is a new segment of our CHMS newsletter to help familiarize students and families with what is in the Middle School Handbook. We are sharing a second reminder that students are NOT allowed to sell items at school and they are not allowed to get food delivered. Students should only bring snacks for themselves and not bring family sized snack items to school. If you want to bring your student lunch in (and only your student - not their friends too), that is permissible as long as you personally deliver the food yourself. We do not accept deliveries from delivery companies / restaurants.
Calendar Check:
Monday, December 11th: No School for students - PD Day

Spirit of Giving - Donation Information
Sign up Information
Families who have applied and qualified for free or reduced lunch this school year will receive an email, text and/or phone call with information on how to apply but any family in need is able to apply.
The application link for anyone who needs it is: https://sunshineplace.my.salesforce-sites.com/spiritofgiving
From Sunshine Place:
We made significant changes to the application to align it with the information the Sunshine places requests from families in an effort to join our databases and reach more families with all the resources they offer.
We also will not be offering food baskets at gift pick up this year in an effort to not limit the amount of families who can receive gifts. We will take applicants from Nov 1-Nov 15 with no limit. To make up for the food needs the food pantry is having more holiday items and hours that we will be informing families of at sign up as well as pick up.

2023 TOY GIVE AWAY EVENT - DEC. 13-14
The tradition continues! For more than 100 years, the Wisconsin State Journal Youth Services Inc., the philanthropic arm of the state's esteemed print and digital newspaper, has hosted a toy give away event for families in need in the greater Dane County area. On Wed. Dec. 13 and Thurs., Dec. 14, thousands of families, guardians, and community service providers will come to Alliant Energy Center to select one new toy and book for each of their children. This treasured community tradition remains vibrant and successful because of the generosity of our community. We are so appreciative of the thousands of individuals and organizations that donate money to purchase the toys and books and the hundreds of volunteers who give their time to help get the toys to families who need them during this holiday season.
Read on for more details about what to expect if you want to VOLUNTEER; find out ways to DONATE; and learn how to APPLY to receive toys for families who could use some extra help this holiday season.
