Manitou Springs High School
Mustang News - November 17th, 2023
From The Principal
Recently, we have had so many moments that epitomized our core values: relationships, deep learning, and opportunities. For example, we’ve had numerous staff members take students on field trips such as shadowing at a local hospital and visiting the quarry. Similarly, students have been engaging in developing advocacy plans in Health as well as strengthening thesis writing in US History. Thank you to our staff for investing purposeful time and energy into creating these deep learning opportunities. Additionally, we worked together as a staff to engage in professional development around thoughtful planning strategies for a block period during Wednesday’s Late Start. I hope you all have a fantastic week off, and we are looking forward to finishing the semester strong! Happy Thanksgiving! Anna Conrad Manitou Springs High School Principal

Teacher Treats
It's the Holiday Season, and PAC wants to show our Teachers how sweet we think they are! PAC is buying boxes, and we need your help bringing in sweet treats to fill them with. They loved this last year as they could fill their own boxes with their favorite treats to take home.
Please bring treats with you when you drop off your student on Thursday, December 7th.
Thank you!

From The Science Department...
Honors Chemistry students did the Flame Test Lab today, which demonstrates how electron transitions produce visible light. Coincidentally, the AP Chemistry students had a similar and more in depth conversation about spectroscopy and the electromagnetic spectrum, so they got to do a quick demo with the lab set up as well.
Pike View Quarry
Environmental Science Classes had the opportunity to learn about the history, development and future operations of the Pike View Quarry. Students learned about the history and importance of the quarry and the proposed land reclamation milestones with the goal of making a downhill mountain bike course for the community sometime in the near future. Students had the opportunity to learn about how drones monitor the development of the project, and the solid career opportunities in the growing field of site monitoring and native species land reclamation. They also had the opportunity to operate an excavator and try their hand at stacking boulders on top of one another!
From The World Language Department...
Students from the World Language Department were learning about the similarities and differences that Spanish & French speaking countries have with the United States when it comes to celebrating Thanksgiving Day. Following the dynamics of this holiday, students worked on the phrase "I'm thankful for...", both in Spanish and French, and wrote on a leaf about things that they are grateful for by using the stem sentences "Doy gracias por..." and "Je rends grâce à...". Once they completed the work, they put their leaves on the "Gratitude Tree", which translates to "Árbol de Gratitud" in Spanish, and "L'arbre de Gratitude" in French. It was a really wholesome demonstration of learning activity.
From The Art Department...
Drawing students put the finishing touches on their projects before Thanksgiving Break.
From Athletics & Activities...
