MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Greetings MVCSD Community,
This Tuesday marked my one-year anniversary as Acting Superintendent of the Mount Vernon City School District, and I am so proud of all that has been accomplished in that time. Below, you will find a video commemorating my anniversary and highlighting the great strides we have made in one year. Thank you to the Board of Trustees for believing in me and my vision. Thank you to all staff, parents, students and the community for getting on the bus with me. I look forward to continuing our drive on the road to success.
Seeing such a high turnout for Parent Involvement Day on Monday gave me so much hope for our partnership with parents. The more that partnership grows, the more successful our scholars will be. Students at Mount Vernon High School are learning a very valuable skill through their participation in the IRS’s Voluntary Tax Assistance Program. They will provide free assistance with taxes to community members, and they are also gaining an understanding of how taxes work. This knowledge will help them in the future no matter what career path they choose. And for students who would like to be accountants in the future, this work-based learning program is extremely valuable.

2023 YEAR AT A GLANCE - MOUNT VERNON CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT
MOUNT VERNON CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT HOSTS 27TH ANNUAL PARENT INVOLVEMENT DAY
In 1996, several women in the Mount Vernon community came together to create the Mount Vernon Parent and Community Forum on Education, a group whose goal is to encourage families to be more involved in their child’s academic life. Monday, February 12, 2024, marked the 27th annual Mount Vernon City School District Parent Involvement Day. Parents visited schools throughout the District, helping create an environment that encourages the youth of Mount Vernon.
MVHS STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN WORK-BASED LEARNING TAX PREPARATION ACTIVITY
Students at Mount Vernon High School are participating in a work-based learning activity to learn how to file other people's and their own taxes. Students met for Voluntary Income Tax Assistance training on Thursday, February 8, 2024.
