From Mrs. Woodring
Wednesday, our 4th and 5th grade classes participated in improvisational workshop from the Paramount Theater, discovering the wonder of acting. Thursday our first grade went over to the public library and planted flowers in Lincoln's garden, and our 2nd graders released their butterflies outdoors. In kindergarten our classes observed the class eggs hatch and were able to see the chicks emerge, holding them today before they were taken back to the farm. Finally we wrapped up the week, serving root beer at lunch connecting the sassafras flavor to our reading.
Next week we will go to the Kane County Cougars game as a reading community. All students who participated in the Ozzie reading earned a free ticket to the game, a free hotdog lunch and the PTO is providing an ice cream dessert out of the field trip funds. Keeping with the theme discovering simple pleasures from 7 Wonders of Sassafras Springs, Eben realized that if you look closely wonders are in your own back yard. Our whole school community will experience a wonderful time together. This field trip does not need extra parent chaperones, but some parents are choosing to purchase tickets and attend on their own. Anyone is able to attend the game, but the kids will remain with the class and school, staying in our seating section, eating with the group or walking with the class and assigned school adult. Students should not need to bring any money, they will not have any opportunity to purchase their own food, or any souvenirs. Please do not send your child with anything extra.

MEDICAL FORMS AND MEDICATION
Dear Parents,
It’s hard to believe there are only a few weeks of school left. This is a reminder that you will need to come to school to pick up your child's medication by the last day of school which is Friday, May 26th. Medications that are not picked up at the end of the year will be disposed of according to the D303 policy. This policy also does not allow medication to remain in the health office over the summer for reuse in the fall. Medication must be picked up by a parent or adult designee with the parent’s permission.
Looking ahead to the 2023-2024 school year, if your child requires medication or any action plans, your child will need new physician orders and action plans for the school year. Ideally have the physician date the forms following the last day of school. Forms can be found under health services on the D303 site or linked directly here:
Students entering into kindergarten or 2nd grade will need a dental examination and form completed within 18 months of May 15th, 2024. Current 2nd grade students require a dental examination and form completed within 18 months of May 15th, 2023. A vision examination and form is also required for incoming kindergarten students as well as a physical examination and form.
These forms can be submitted to the main office or emailed to the school nurse at christy.mathern@d303.org. Please reach out if you have any questions. The health office direct line is 331-228-2504.
If there are any changes to your child’s current health history including medical diagnoses and/or regular medication please update the health service team! Thank you!
Thank you!

Family Contact Info - Please verify for your family!
This week’s first snow is a great reminder to make sure the contact information you’ve provided the District is up-to-date. We want to ensure you’re getting timely alerts on inclement weather operations and other important notifications. Please take a moment to do the following:
View Notification Preferences/Enable Text Messages
District 303 will send notifications to families through the ParentLink system by text message, phone call and email based on your settings. Parents/guardians can view and edit their contact settings through the Home Access Center.
To receive timely emergency communications, we strongly encourage families to enable text notifications. For most people, this is the fastest way to receive and view important messages. Here’s how:
- From the HAC main menu, select the “registration” tab to view your contact settings
- Select the “edit” button to change your contact settings
- To enable text message notifications, enter your cell phone number in the Cell/Text field
- Select the “save” button
