Dear Parents/Carers,

It was a pleasure to accompany our youngest pupils to The Kings School this week so they could take part in a PAT Games Summer Skills Festival competing against the Primaries in the Trust. Despite a cold morning, the pupils had an amazing time and we came 2nd on points. Well done to all of the pupils who took part!

This Week This Week

VE Day - 80th Anniversary

On Thursday, we celebrated VE Day by asking our pupils to come dressed in either the colours of the British flag or in 1940s style. We had some wonderful outfits! School held a two-minute silence at 12 O’clock followed by a whole school picnic on the field. Throughout the day, classes learned about the significance of VE Day and completed activities.

"My Town" Art Exhibition

On Friday, Mrs Taylor, our Art Lead, took a few pupils to Pontefract library to attend the initial opening of an art exhibition entitled, My Town. Mrs Taylor, along with a small selection of pupils, have produced the most amazing pieces of artwork to be displayed from Saturday 10th May to Friday 23rd May. Please try and pop along if you can. Here is one of the pieces produced which the Pontefract Civic Society have used for their invites this year. Well done to all pupils involved.

Year 6 SAT's

As many will know, next week our Year 6 cohort will be sitting their SATs. All of the pupils have worked exceptionally hard in the run up to sitting the assessments and we are extremely proud of the resilience and maturity they have shown in the build-up. I am sure that you join me when I wish them all the best of luck! I am confident that they will be amazing.

Next Friday, to celebrate the end of the SATs, the Year 6s will be treated to take out pizza and a fun water fight. We can’t wait to see

Larks Hill Masterchef Cooking Competition

We are very excited to share details of a Master Chef Cooking Competition for our Key Stage Two pupils which has been launched in an assembly on Friday.

The lucky winner will get to go to the Double Tree Hotel in Leeds on Monday 16th June to prepare a special pizza in a professional kitchen with professional chefs! To enter, the children must design a savoury dish that they can cook in school supported by a school adult. The meal may be hot or cold. The budget for the ingredients is a maximum of £10. Children will need to complete a recipe design sheet to include a costed ingredients list. The design sheet will be provided by school. The deadline for entries is Friday 16th May. Five dishes will be chosen by a select few to go through to the next round of the competition where school will provide the ingredients for the children to create their dish in school. The cooking date will be confirmed once the winners have been chosen. The final winner will be selected following a taste session, again by a chosen few, and will have the opportunity to go to the Double Tree along with winners from other schools across the Trust. This is a unique opportunity for any child who would like to experience working in a professional kitchen or who simply just loves to cook! We look forward to receiving the recipe designs and tasting some of the amazing food in the weeks to come.

Copies of the entry form can be collected from Mrs Taylor or from the School Office.

Don't Let your Froglets Hop into Harm! Our recent Child Drowning Update reports that on average, one child a month drowns at home in England, with those aged under 5 being most at risk. These findings build on earlier reports that the number of child drowning has tragically doubled over the last four years.
