Mrs. Pierce's Message:

Dear Trojans,

What a fantastic week! It is wonderful to see so many children reading their new books. Thank you to all those who volunteered to work our BOOK FAIR and made the Breakfast of Champions spectacular for the fifth graders! Every week we have the behind-the-scenes lunch crew who give to our school with lunch cleanup and recess volunteers. Also, we thank our volleyball coaches and parents of players who gave so much of their time to make our season a success. We are grateful for your service!

This week we focus on giving to others. Today is Mission Sunday. While I was growing up, my father reminded me that I have a responsibility to help others. There will always be people in life who have less than you and those who have more than you; it is your duty to use what God gives you to help others who have less. There are 3 ways we can help others. The first is by our gift of treasure: giving money or food when we can to help others. The second is time: using it to serve others through tasks of charity and praying for the poor. The third is using our talents to build our communities. May we be the hands and feet of Jesus and help those abroad and in our community.

Classroom Connection

As we begin the second quarter, we love to see our students active in learning. Some of our eighth graders led team building games at the Breakfast of Champions on Friday. The seventh grade has been busy preparing a skit for our Catholic Charities SOS Drive to help the homeless. I can’t wait to see their presentation on Monday at our Prayer Assembly. Students may bring their items this week and next week for the drive. Sixth graders enjoyed playing challenging and fun math games. Fifth grade was busy in science discovering rocks through a hardness lab. Fourth graders presented their saint papers; third graders were working on some clever get well cards. Second grade worked on developing inferencing skills when they are reading and annotating text. First graders were attacking words and building vocabulary; all important for becoming the best readers ever. Kindergarteners continued number concepts by mastering counting to 48- the number of days we have been at school. Prek-4 students worked on the idea of 9 while they made candies in a jar and arrays of 9. Our Prek-3 students explored a pumpkin both inside and out. It was quiet a gooey time at first, but they loved it! We are so thankful for our teachers and staff who continually work to bring your child to be his/her best!

Missionary Childhood Art Contest

Since its founding over 160 years ago, the Missionary Childhood Association (MCA) has had but one focus — to bring the love of Jesus to the world’s children. MCA’s annual Christmas Artwork Contest is one way children in the United States express their love and commitment to children in the missions.

The contest is open to all Catholic school, parish Religious Education and home school students in kindergarten through eighth grades. The deadline for entry to this year’s contest is January 31, 2018. Entry forms and contest guidelines are attached. Please read them carefully as they have changed this year! Good luck to all our young artists!

Entries must be submitted to our Diocesan Office of Pontifical Missions, ATTN: Missionary Childhood Association Artwork Contest by January 31, 2018

Mass, remember your canned food item

Science Fair parent meeting 6th - 8th grades 6:30 P.M.

10/26 - Parent Conferences 1 P.M. - 8 P.M. Noon Dismissal NO SMEED

Grade 2-8 students must attend conferences in Mass Uniform.

Middle School Dance 6:30 P.M. - 8:30 P.M. Halloween theme hosted by 7th grade. Remember costumes should be modest in nature, and students should dress appropriately. Costume length should match dress code requirements. Students should bring an item from the Catholic Charities donation list to donate and $1 to get into the dance.

Set up begins at 3:30 P.M. and clean up at 8:30 P.M.

10/28 - Robotics 10 A.M. - 1 P.M.

SMG Red soccer game at St. Andrew at 4:30 P.M.

Trunk O Treat after the 5:30 P.M. Mass. The class with the most attendance will win a pizza party sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.

10/30 - 8th grade Yearbook Committee Meeting 3:15 P.M. - 4 P.M. in computer lab

No Chess Club this week.

10/31 - Halloween, regular uniform dress
