New Standard Response Protocol
Our school has adopted The “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP). Students and staff will be training, practicing, and drilling the protocol.
The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is based on an all-hazards approach as opposed to individual scenarios. Like the Incident Command System (ICS), SRP utilizes clear common language while allowing for flexibility in protocol. The premise is simple - there are five specific actions that can be performed during an incident. When communicating these, the action is labeled with a “Term of Art” and is then followed by a “Directive.” Execution of the action is performed by active participants, including students, staff, teachers and first responders. The SRP is based on the following actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter.
Notice on NYM Weather Annoucements:
The New York Mills Public School utilizes six sources to quickly inform parents about school calendar changes due to the weather. The three calls we utilize include the emergency early out, the weather-related late start, or the weather-related school day cancellation. Morning weather calls are typically made by 6 a.m.
Our first resource is the instant alert system called School Messenger. Parents will receive an automated phone call and/or an email through the system. More information about the School Messenger can be found on our website under the Parent Resources tab. Link: https://www.nymills.k12.mn.us/parentnotificationsystem Parents can update their contact information through the Parentvue system, or by calling the elementary or high school office.
The message will also be posted on the school bulletin board, which can be accessed when people call the school (218-385-2553)
Announcements will also be posted on the NY Mills Facebook page (Search New York Mills Public School ISD 553)
Announcements will be posted on the pop-up box on our website www.nymills.k12.mn.us
The message is sent to local radio stations to be announced
The message is sent to WDAY, KARE11, KSTP, and CBS/WCCO.
Parental Supervision Necessary at NYM Events
Lack of parental supervision of children at school events (both inside and out) has become a serious problem this fall. While we love to see students of all ages at the games cheering for our Eagles, we have had reports of large groups of unattended children causing problems, both in the school and at the football field. There have been reports of fights, unruliness, and disrespect. As a result, our adult volunteers who supervise games and our after hours custodial staff are being overtaxed with the added duties of chasing children out of places where they should not be after school hours which has become a major safety issue for staff, students and parents alike. We would love to continue seeing the turnouts and school spirit that we do at sporting events and have full confidence that these issues will be easily resolved if children remain with their parents during events. Thank you so much for your continued support! We have always been able to count on our amazing community and we know that the safety of our children is your number one priority as well as ours! Have fun, be safe and Go Eagles!

School Meals Information
This year school breakfast and lunches are free, however, there are fees for extra items. If students take a reimbursable meal (based on Federal requirements), there is no charge. If students only need milk to go with their lunch from home, there is a $0.40 charge per carton. If students purchase anything extra besides their meal, they will be charged (Powerade, seconds on food, extra drinks or ala carte items-uncrustable, breakfast bar, etc.). Students need to have money in their accounts to cover these costs.
Weekly emails will be sent to those parents that have students with a negative balance. Payments can be made online at https://www.payschoolscentral.com/ or cash or check can be sent to the District Office to be applied to student accounts.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact the District Office at 218-385-4201.
Consider planning vacations within school vacations!
Regular school attendance is essential for student success. With consistent attendance, students will benefit both academically and socially. The NY Mills School also recognizes the myriad of benefits to family vacations. In an effort to have both good attendance and family vacations, we have provided a list of all long weekends in the upcoming school year. Please consider planning your family vacations during the school vacations. Thank you for your partnership in your children’s education!
