February 2024
We learn through love!💗
Escuela Families,
The weather can be unpredictable at times so it’s important to check the weather so that your child has on the proper clothing for school. Students should wear coats, hats, and gloves daily. We tell them to put on and zip up their coats before leaving school. Please speak with your child about this so that they don’t get sick from not wearing a coat. Also, please contact Nurse Ohashi at the school to let her know if your child(ren) are in need of any winter clothing items. If you are in need of anything please let your child’s teacher know or contact the school.
Our 3rd-6th grade students will be taking the ELA Ohio State Test (OST) between March 24th through April 10th. The Math and Science OST are from April 11th through May 9th and the iReady Spring Diagnostic is from May 9th through May 22nd. Specific testing dates and times will be given by your child’s teacher at the beginning of March. We want you to know the dates so that you can make sure that your child is in school on that day. Once the teachers give you the specific dates of testing, we would appreciate it if you would not make any appointments for them on the day of testing. This is because it is difficult to schedule a time to make up the test. Please make sure that your child gets plenty of rest and eats a good breakfast before the test. Thank you for all of the support that you give to your children and their teachers on a daily basis.
Please SAVE THE WEEK: Spring Break is from April 14th through April 21st

Office News
- Office opens at 7:30 and closes at 3:00 pm.
- If you have any changes to transportation, please call no later than noon to let us know.
- Bus IDs need to be in the student's backpack all the time. IDs will be scanned daily to get on the bus.
- Do not pick up students between 1:30 and 2:00. Teachers are already getting ready for dismissal and this causes confusion for them as the dismissal list is already made.
- Students cannot be dropped off in the office before 7:40 am as we do not have personnel available to supervise them.
- Please do not block the entrance to the parking lot. Teachers need to enter first thing in the morning.
- Please DO NOT BLOCK DRIVEWAYS in the afternoon when picking up students. Neighbors need to be able to get out and come into their driveways.
- Pick up students as indicated - First door on Field Ave. for students that get picked up by car. The door on Western Ave. is ONLY for students that are walkers. Main entrance doors are for students that ride the bus.
We appreciate your cooperation.

Hello Escuela Families,
I can't believe it is already February!
Here is an update on health matters at Escuela.
Vision Mobile:
I am thankful for the partnership with Health Partners of Western Ohio for providing Vision Outreach services to our school. They provided amazing vision services to our students on Jan.23-30. Due to the cold days, they were not able to see all our students but we can refer you to their clinic at Old West End Community Health Center. They have medical, dental, and vision. Remember the vision mobile, does a complete comprehension vision test. If your child needs glasses, they will provide glasses for them. It does take 2-3 weeks to receive them. If you have insurance, they will bill your insurance with no cost to you. If you do not have insurance, the services are free. Remember we need a signed consent form on file for your child to receive this service.
Dental Mobile:
On February 13-26, we will have a Dental mobile van coming to our school. They offer Dental services to our students who have a signed consent on file. The type of dental services that they offer are dental cleanings and sealants. They do not fill cavities or any other major dental work. If your child has cavities, they will be referred to a dentist. If you have insurance, they will bill your insurance, if you do not have insurance it is a free service for your child. Please remember that most insurance allow two cleanings every six months. This will count as one of the cleanings billed to your insurance. If you have, any other questions let me know. I have sent consent forms home since September. If you have not signed one and would like your child to receive dental services, please message me or call me.
Fresh Vegetable and Fruit Program:
Did you know that we have a vegetable and Fruit Program at Escuela SMART? We offer fruits and veggies to our students two times a week as a snack in the classroom. This helps our children try new, healthy fruits and vegetables that maybe they haven't tried before. Fruits and vegetables are a good source of vitamins for everyone. If your child has an allergy to any fruits or vegetables please make sure you let me or your teacher know and we will try to accommodate them with an alternative snack.
Food Bags:
We are still offering food bags to our families. If you need a food bag donated by the Islamic pantry, please let me or our counselor, Mrs. Szozda, know.
