Updated SC DHEC COVID-19 Guidance (March 2024)
Recently, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control revised its school exclusion requirement related to COVID-19 in response to the CDC’s March 1, 2024 updated guidance.
SC DHEC no longer requires a five-day isolation period for students and staff who test positive for COVID-19. COVID-19 cases will be treated like all other respiratory illnesses and we will use fever guidelines for exclusion from school. Students should no longer report positive COVID-19 cases to the district via the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Staff should no longer report positive COVID-19 cases via the district’s report form.
As a reminder, anyone with a temperature of 100 or greater and with a sore throat and/or cough should stay home until they are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil). For a student to return to school, a parent must provide a note stating that the student’s fever has resolved for at least 24 hours without using fever-reducing medications and symptoms are significantly improving.
