Christmas Parade
On Saturday, December 14th, our IHCS Band, Color Guard, and Cheer Team proudly marched in the annual Perris Christmas Parade under the expert direction of Mr. Chasteen, Mrs. Testa, and Mrs. Thielke. Their performance was a true showcase of Mariner pride, talent, and teamwork.
The band delighted the crowd with a spirited rendition of Sleigh Ride, a classic holiday favorite composed by Leroy Anderson and first performed by the Boston Pops Orchestra in 1948. One of the most memorable moments came during a special break in the song, featuring the playful sound of a horse's whinny, masterfully played by 7th grader Alex Hernandez on his trumpet, and our cheer team and color guard responding with delightful holiday choreography.
Families lined the parade route, cheering and applauding every note, twirl, and cheer from our outstanding Mariner performers. Their energy, precision, and holiday spirit left a lasting impression on the community. We are so proud of our Band, Color Guard, and Cheer Team for representing IHCS with excellence and joy!
IHCS Choir, Band, and Mariachi Night
What an unforgettable evening of music at IHCS! Our gym was filled with the energy and excitement of talented student performers and a supportive family audience that matched their enthusiasm. The night featured incredible performances from our Choir, Band, and Mariachi groups, showcasing the hard work and passion of our Mariner musicians. Pictured below: Mr. Chasteen, expertly leading our choir and conducting our sixth and seventh-period bands, inspiring students to deliver a memorable musical experience for all in attendance.
The Mariachi photos showcase the incredible talent of our students across multiple grade levels. Featured are third-grader Delilah Conde on guitar, sixth-grader Amy Hernandez on violin, and her second-grade brother Leo on guitar. Seventh-grader Alex Hernandez plays the trumpet, while seventh-grader Muryell Escobar shines on the Guitarrón (bass guitar) alongside her third-grade brother Matteo Escobar on violin. Also pictured with our Superintendent, Mr. Bruce Bivins, is our outstanding seventh-grade student and ASB President, Miracle Rodriguez, proudly holding her violin.
WICOR:
Look for the Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and Reading in our classrooms. Ms. De Leon delivers a phonics lesson to first grade students. Students are highly engaged, thinking as they are doing, and there are variables throughout the phonics lesson to keep them engaged as the lesson progresses. Mrs. Casimiro-Garcia provides opportunities for student collaboration and students to share their thinking. Mrs. Hickey and AVID tutors provide tutorial lessons where students collaborate around a given problem that a student brings from one of his/her classes. In the photo, the student is writing the exact information and problem that the group will collaborate around.
Intervention in the classroom:
Ms. Fortenberry consistently brings a small group of students together each day and throughout the day to support their learning of fractions and essential standards.
Professional Development Opportunity:
IHCS Academic Math Coach, Mrs. Taylor Barraza, facilitated an engaging professional development session on maximizing the use of the Illuminate platform. This training equipped teachers with the skills to effectively analyze student data, track progress, and make informed instructional decisions, ultimately supporting student success.
IHCS Academic Math Coach, Mrs. Taylor Barraza, leads a professional development training on how to use the Illuminate platform. Teachers are able to use this platform to create assessments, analyze and disaggregate data and plan next steps of instruction.
Chess Club:
Mr. Mireles leads an after school chess club with Mrs. Casimiro-Garcia. Students are engaged, thinking, and collaborating around best chess strategies.
12 Days of Christmas
Counselor's Connection
As we approach the winter break, our school counselors remain dedicated to supporting our students' social-emotional well-being. To provide ongoing support during this time, we are excited to introduce our Virtual Calming Cove. The Virtual Calming Cove is a special space for students to access calming activities, resources, and techniques to help manage their emotions during the break. Whether it’s breathing exercises, mindfulness activities, or other coping strategies, the Calming Cove offers tools to help students stay calm and centered.
To visit the Virtual Calming Cove, click on the link below or scan the QR code!
We hope this resource will bring comfort and a sense of peace to our students as they enjoy their well-deserved time off. We want to take a moment to wish everyone a joyful and safe holiday season! See you in the New Year!
Kind Regards,
The Counseling team
Our second graders have been diving into fun and meaningful learning experiences this week!
In phonics, we’ve been mastering the long "e" sound, exploring its various spellings: e, ea, ee, ie, y, and ey. For writing, students are creating opinion pieces about their favorite fall activities, sharing their ideas with clear reasons and details. In math, we’ve been comparing numbers by interpreting different number forms and using base 10 drawings to explain our reasoning.
We’ve also started learning about holidays around the world. So far, we’ve studied traditions from Mexico, China, Germany, and England, and students are enjoying discovering how different cultures celebrate.
It’s been a fantastic time of growth and exploration in second grade!
