November 2023
From the Principal
Greetings Viking Families,
The 2nd Quarter is underway and students engaged in athletics, after school clubs and various activities. Congratulations to all our fall sports teams and to our marching band for a wonderful season. We look forward to the start of Winter Sports and Activities. Remember that we have free tutoring available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 3:15-5:00pm in the library.
We started Viking Choice Time on Tuesdays and Thursdays where students get to select activities they want to do during advisement on these days. Students also have the option to visit one of the Math Support rooms for additional help.
We continue to monitor tardies and attendance. We appreciate your support in helping students understand the importance of attending classes, engaging in learning activities and completing their work. This is an important life skill our students need as they prepare for college and/or the world of work!
On November 2nd we are hosting an Academy Exploration Night for 8th and 9th Graders. All North High families are welcomed. See the details below.
We are also looking forward to the fall Musical Production of “Elf”. Shows are Dec. 1st and 2nd at 7:00pm and Dec. 3rd at 2pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students. You can purchase tickets ahead of time using the link below.
Students are faced with multiple stressors as they navigate high school. If you feel your student needs additional academic or emotional assistance please do not hesitate to reach out to their School Counselor, our School Social Worker, or their Administrator. We are all here to aid in each student’s success on this high school journey!
As always, we appreciate your continued support and involvement. If you have any questions, please call us 531-299-2700.

French Club Updates
It was such a nice day October 18, after doing a short cultural activity on how pétanque is played in Benin, French 7-8 headed outside to try their hand at the sport.
French Club is kicking-off their 4th annual Buche de Noel bake-off. This is a school wide activity where prospective bakers are given the ingredients necessary to bake this French Christmas time cake over Winter break. Students then submit photos of their creations to a panel of judges to see which one is the best decorated. The top three receive a gift card to an Omaha area bakery.
AP Lit & Comp Field Trip
As a part of their study of Ethnocriticism and Multicultural Critical Theory unit, the AP Literature and Composition students read Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis. On October 26th, they were invited to Film Streams for a viewing of the movie and academic discussion with other area schools.
JROTC in Action!
The Best Cadet Physical Challenge Teams practice the equipment carry with varying items that weigh between 28 and 45 pounds. They must move as a team and return to the starting point as a team to receive points over a 10-minute time period. JROTC cadets also fine tune their marksmanship skills for the annual OPS JROTC rifle league competition.
