Important Dates

American Mathematics Competition

Bucknell hosted the American Math Contest (AMC) and invited local middle schools to attend. A group of DHEMS students attended and participated in the national contest. Our students performed extremely well, with 6th grader Lara Froicu placing first, 7th grader Matthew Zhu placing second, and 8th grader Everett Stuhl placing third.

Camp Cadet

Trooper Barrett of the Pennsylvania State Police recently visited the DHEMS library to share information on Camp Cadet. Camp Cadet is a week-long camp that takes place at Susquehanna University in June. Applications are open and being accepted now. Camp Cadet is a law enforcement experience that strives to provide a fun, challenging environment for youth aged 12 - 15 years old. Key skills include structure, teamwork, discipline, and self-esteem. This camp simulates the actual training that state police undertake. The goal of Camp Cadet is to introduce participants to the diverse opportunities of law enforcement and to develop personal achievement, self-esteem, and integrity. It is an unforgettable experience. Classroom Chronicles

Cookie Lab

Students in Mr. Cicoria's class completed a lab using snacks. At the conclusion of their rock, mineral, and fossils unit, students used their imagination and substituted different snack food as rocks and minerals. For example, a chocolate cookie could represent sedimentary rock. After the lab students were able to eat rocks... or snack foods.

Chariot Race Cars

In 8th grade Technology Education classes, Mr. Morgan's students created their own wooden race cars and sent them flying down a track. Students raced their classmates to find the ultimate chariot champion

Chinese New Year Celebration

Mr. Haussener, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Pauling, and 6th grade ELA students celebrated the Chinese New Year in the library. Students performed The Race for the Zodiac in the library, complete with costumes and props!

Building Scatterplots Using Height and Wingspan

Mrs. Cronk's Algebra students recently measured their heights and wingspans, plotted the data on a coordinate plane, and analyzed the data to determine the type of correlation it forms. Students will use this data to graph lines of best fit and calculate slope in a future lesson!

DHEMS Card Show Fundraiser

DHEMS hosted a Card Show Fundraiser that brought together card enthusiasts and the local community. With 60+ vendors offering a wide range of rare and collectible cards, the event attracted over 400 attendees who had a great time viewing, trading, and purchasing items to add to their collections. A special shout out to the many DHEMS students who showed their love of trading by setting up their own tables!


In addition to the card trading excitement, attendees were thrilled to meet our distinguished alumni, Cassie Sumfest, Team USA Field Hockey Olympian, and Anthony Neuer, professional bowler. Both alumni took time to sign autographs and interact with fans, making the day even more special.


All proceeds from the card show will benefit the school's RAPS (Positive Behavior Support) Team, helping to reward students for meeting and exceeding expectations while funding experiences to further promote a positive school culture.


A huge thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, and supported the event. We look forward to making this an annual tradition!

Health Update

The Pennsylvania Public School Code requires students to receive a dental exam upon entry into school (Grade K or 1), 3rd grade, and 7th grade. The School Dentist, Dr. Dustin Snyder is scheduled to visit Friday, Feb. 28th as well as a later date this spring. If you DO NOT want to have your child screened by the school dentist, please let Mrs. Smouse know at smouse_h@dragon.k12.pa.us. To clarify, the school dentist does not do any cleaning or treatment, just a quick visual inspection and you will be notified if he finds anything of concern. If your child already had a dental exam between 8/23/2023 to present, please have a copy faxed to 570-522-3331.

January Students of the Month

Congratulations to our January students of the month. These students are selected by the faculty for consistently following school expectations of being Respectful, Accountable, Prepared and Safe.

PSA Dance - February 21

The next school dance will be hosted by our DHEMS PSA on February 21. The theme is 'Tracksuits and Tiaras'. Activities include dancing and team competitions in the gym. The admission cost is $5.

Spring Sports Meeting & Registration

Susquehanna Valley Band

Some of our 7th and 8th grade band students represented DHEMS at the 65th annual Susquehanna Valley Band Festival at Warrior Run. The ensemble was made up of students from various local school districts who rehearsed together for two days before performing a concert on January 18. The students were selected by an audition process and we are incredibly proud of how well they represented our band program and DHEMS!

DHEMS is participating in the Weis4School program, where you can earn money for DHEMS simply by linking your club card to the middle school.
