Athletics
Volleyball
High School: The HS Girls' Volleyball team has been very busy the last two weeks, starting September 9th when they hosted Kennedy. Freshman Kaylyn Belkowski was called up to the Varsity team and made an immediate impact as she totaled 4 total aces, which helped the team win in straight sets! Unfortunately, we lost the next game against STEM. Junior Ashby Deeds helped the team propel to a straight-set victory over Union Colony Prep, as she registered 4 aces, 7 digs, and 3 aces! The team would then find themselves in a little bit of a slump as they would lose their next three games; however, they would find their groove again as they got a dominating win this past Saturday against Jefferson HS. Junior Mei Li Scholl helped bring the offensive firepower by registering 14 kills! The JV team has had a great season thus far, as they have gone 4-1 in their last five games! They had straight-set victories against Kennedy, STEM, Union Colony Prep, and Denver Christian! Junior Daphne Baumgartner, Sophomores Emma Francavilla and Samantha Aleman, and Freshman Ellie McClaughlin have played a vital role in the JV team’s success so far, and they look to keep that momentum going! The C team had three games these past two weeks and went 3-0! They were able to grind out exciting wins over Kennedy, Machebeuf, and Denver Christian! The on-court abilities of Freshman Paige Lloyd and Hannah Bohorquez, as well as sophomore Emorie Zaharris, helped propel the C team to exciting victories! All three levels look to keep their momentum going as they travel to Gilpin County High School this Tuesday and Dawson High School this Thursday. Best of luck, ladies!
Middle School: The MS volleyball team had a busy last two weeks, starting September 10th against Aspen View Academy. The A team had some incredible volleys in both sets, as Aspen View spiked at us every time they received the ball, but we played it right back at them. Ada Di Santo was outstanding on defense and offense, staying aggressive and impacting. Izzy Sandoval and Jorden Spears led the team with strong serves. We have another tough game against Denver Christian, but we’re hoping for a better outcome! Playing in the Big Gym always creates a fun, lively atmosphere, though we started a bit sluggish with several missed serves. However, Izzy Sandoval and Kidist Pritchard rallied with excellent serves, bringing the team back to life, and we worked together to pull off a two-set win, a fantastic way to wrap up our home games. Playing against the number one team in the league was a challenge, but the A team girls showed up! After losing the first set, they fought back and won the second, which gave them the confidence to play an amazing third set. Though we came up just short, we feel the team is finally clicking, and we look forward to next week’s games. Annabelle Bieniek stood out in the back row, Ada Di Santo held her own in the front, and Izzy Sandoval served and hit well from both the front and back rows. Brea McLaughlin returned with confidence and played a solid game. The B Team delivered a solid performance, with everyone playing great in their two-set win. Miranda Rausseo, Christina Hefele, and Diya Barani led with excellent passing and hustle, covering the court and getting to balls with great effort. The A team has continued to grow, playing with teamwork and hustle. Izzy Sandoval and Annabelle Bieniek dominated with their serves, Ava Ellison and Ada Di Santo played strong at the net, and Elise Vannoy provided some amazing sets. All levels have one more game this Tuesday before the A and B tournament starts next week. Best of luck, girls!

Soccer
High School: It has been a tough two weeks for the High School Varsity Boys Soccer team, as they have gone 1-4 in their last five games. However, they showcased what they could do on the field when they dominated STEM High School on Thursday, September 12th. In this game, Sophomore Sawyer Gray registered a hat trick as he secured 3 goals. Junior Nathan Kamman also shined in goal as he secured a 7-save shutout while playing with a cast on! The team has been packed with games, so this week they have one, and although they look to get a bit of a breather, they also look to get back on track against Estes Park this Tuesday. This team still has a real shot at the state playoffs, and we wish them all the luck as they pursue the state playoffs! The JV team had two games this past two weeks, and unfortunately, they could not secure a win in either of their two contests. They look to return to the win column against Estes Park this Tuesday.
Middle School: The A team had a dominant stretch starting with a 10-1 win over Leman Academy on 9/9/24, where several players scored their first goals of the season, including Jason Bishop, Alex Eschmann (2), Sam Caton, Sheppard Eloe (2), and Greyson Graf. Strong defense kept LA from taking a shot on goal in the first half. On 9/10/24, the team won 4-0 against PRA, with Aston DeLisa scoring just 5 minutes into the game. Josiah Paul played excellent defense, shutting down PRA’s top player while also netting his second goal of the season, with Charlie Krier adding his first as a swing player. The A team tied 3-3 against DCA on 9/11/24 in a thrilling second half where five goals were scored, and Hudson Newman tied the game with just 42 seconds left. The B Team also tied DCA 3-3, with goals by Charlie Krier, Leo Sanchez, and a late equalizer from Newman. On 9/12/24, the A team won 4-0 against BFA despite concerns about the smaller field and goals, with Ashton DeLisa (2), Corbin Sadler, and Sam Caton scoring, and the defense anchored by Josiah Paul and goalie Toddli Scholl keeping BFA scoreless. The team suffered its first loss on 9/16/24 against NSA, 3-5, despite a strong start with two quick goals by DeLisa and a tying goal from Cameron Lawless. NSA’s star player scored twice in the second half, sealing the loss. The B Team won 7-2, with Andrey Telesin, Zachary Harker (2), and Elijah Domokos-Itson all scoring their first goals of the season, and Telesin excelled both offensively and defensively as he also played goalie, allowing just one goal. The A team bounced back on 9/17/24 with a 5-2 win over LA, where Corbin Sadler scored the first and last goals, with additional goals from Caleb Monarez, Jason Bishop, and Sam Caton. It was a great team effort with excellent ball movement and strong defense, limiting LA to just one goal per half. The A team has three more games, while the B team has two more games before the A team tournament starts. Let’s finish the season out strong, boys!
Golf
The Varsity Golf team has been extremely busy, having had four tournaments in the last two weeks. Three of those tournaments were league tournaments in which they WON all three! September 5th was the Estes Park hosted tournament in which fifteen schools and eighty-four players competed. In this tournament, our boys finished third overall but first in the league, as well as Senior Josh Reeves tying for first place! The next tournament they participated in was a 5A hosted tournament in which we finished fifth out of fourteen teams, with Junior Tucker Corazaari shooting a really sharp 83. Machebeuf hosted the next tournament at Hyland Hills GC, and SVA was able to grind out a win with Seniors Josh Reeves finishing tied for 2nd and Landon Webb for third. The Varsity boys won yet another league tournament this past Wednesday, and the entire team played very well. Senior Ryan Carr shot an 84, and Sophomore Tyler Roe shot an 88 to help the team come together for another strong team win. It has been a truly special team for the Boys Golf Program, and they look to secure the league championship by hosting this Tuesday at Lone Tree Golf Course. After their last league tournament this Tuesday, we will look to do well at Regionals on September 30th and State on October 7th and 8th. The JV team had a tournament on September 12th at Wellshire Golf Course in which all six golfers played hard, and Sophomore Carter Balken led the way with a 52. Our JV golfers made great strides this year, with golfers like Sophomore Carter Balken, Andrew Wilcoxen, and Freshman Felix Marshall getting to play in some Varsity tournaments. It was a great season for the JV, and they should all be proud of the work and dedication they put into this season!
Cross Country
High School: The Cross Country team competed in the Liberty Bell Invitational on September 14. On the boys side, Junior Everett Johnson ran a really strong race, in which he finished 33rd out of 152 total runners. The next meet was the Arvada West Invitational this past Thursday, where Sophomore Rylan Griffith finished 11th, and Senior Mitch Hixson finished 19th out of 115 total runners! Great job, gentlemen! On the girls side, all four runners had strong races. Still, Junior Rome Sauber had her best race of the season as she finished with a time of 30:55. In the Road Runner invitational meet this past Saturday, Rylan Griffith yet again showcased his talents as he finished in 6th place out of 132 total boys runners! Senior Aarjav Shah also ran strongly as he finished under 20 minutes with a time of 19:32. Freshman Audrey Pfost also displayed all the hard work she has put in this season as she finished with a strong time of 29:55 as she was able to run under 30 minutes, really great race Audrey! It was an encouraging last few races for the Cross Country team, and they look forward to doing well at the Mile High League Meet on October 5 at Englewood HS.
Middle School: At the Hawk Invitational on 9/13/24, the team competed in the second meet of the season on a hot afternoon at D'Evelyn HS. Despite the challenging conditions and the longest race so far (3.5k or 2.2 miles), the team performed admirably. Although times were slower than expected, the Girls A team finished 8th, with 7th grader Ella McGowan placing an impressive second overall, just 7 seconds behind the leader. Sixth grader Caitlin O'Brien and 7th grader Caroline Hammitt rounded out the top three, while Jillian Stevens led the Girls B team in the day's final race. On the boys' side, Paxton Jesson once again led the Boys A team, finishing 10th overall. Seventh grader Nathan Quintana and 8th grader Owen Wright helped the team secure 8th place. Special recognition goes to Charli Chism, Megha Rao, Lucas Bohorquez, Smayan Konanki, and Gavin McNabb for competing in their first-ever cross-country race. At the Littleton Lions Invitational on 9/17/24, following a brief rain shower that cooled the temperatures, the MS XC team tackled a 2-mile course featuring varied terrain, shade, and the steepest hill of the season. Ella McGowan again led the Girls A team, finishing 3rd overall with a time of 11:50, just 8 seconds out of first, and out-sprinting the 4th place runner in the final 50 meters. Eighth-grader Chloe Lacy delivered a solid performance, securing second place on the team, while Caroline Hammitt, Jillian Stevens, Caitlyn O'Brien, and Sophie Griepentrog finished within 6 seconds of each other. Seventh grader Hollis Holcomb came close to breaking into the top 20 in the Girls B team race, continuing her steady improvement. Paxton Jesson nearly broke the 12-minute barrier, finishing 13th overall for the Boys A team. Nathan Quintana and Jonny Cavett crossed the line together, with Owen Wright and Charlie Simcik close behind to complete the top five. Gavin McNabb posted a top-30 finish on the Boys B team, improving his mile pace by nearly 2 minutes compared to the previous week.
