Book Club
Hooked On Covers Book Club Starts January 2025
Our Hooked on Covers Book Club starts this month and our first book is The Maid by Nita Prose.
The books are at the circulation desk along with a bag full of supplies to crochet your first Granny Square. Contents include:
- 17 yards of Red Heart Super Saver Acrylic Cherry Red Yarn
- 17 yards of Red Heart Super Saver Acrylic Black Yarn
- 17 yards of Red Heart Super Saver Acrylic Soft White Yarn
- Size 5.5 crochet hook
- Pattern for a basic Granny Square
- Links to video tutorials to help you get started
A basic Granny Square is 6 rounds and uses about 17 yards of yarn. We have intentionally provided extra yarn to encourage you to crochet your square in any design. We have some books with patterns available to borrow if you need inspiration. Feeling ambitious? Find and read another book with the same cover color scheme and make another square with the remaining yarn.
If you are new to crochet,
- We encourage you to use one of the balls of yarn to make a practice square before you start your blanket square.
- Give the video tutorials listed a try. Miss Jes taught herself how to crochet using the video tutorials provided, so they are vetted and beginner approved.
- Bring your yarn, hook and square to the library and ask at the desk if anyone working is able to help you get started. (A few of our staff are experienced crocheters!)
- Look for a 'Learn to crochet' workshop in the beginning of February and come in for some hands-on help to get you started.

Books That Talk
VOX books are books that have preloaded audio recordings installed on the book.
Through funds from The Inclusive Collections Aid funded through the OWWL Library Systemβs categorical aid for the Coordinated Outreach Services Program, we now have over 15 beginner chapter books with built in read-aloud features available to loan. The Coordinated Outreach Services Program through New York State Education Law, Β§273 (1)(h)(1), and Commissioner's Regulations Β§90.3, allows Public Library Systems to provide Coordinated Outreach Library Services directly and through their member libraries to New Yorkers who are most in need and who often are not regular library users.
