Tech Notes 🖥️
Summer 2024
Sites and software access and various types of information are consistently being added to the Launchpad. The Shakopee Bookmarks folder in Chrome will be pruned and the Staff Links article in Tech Tools will be similarly scaled back to encourage use of Launchpad.
We now have a district license for MagicSchool; see the AI newsletter for details.
Printing
We have been taking a look at our entire printing environment and will be making some changes.
Pricing Updates - Price changes are detailed below; these affect central duplicating requests.
PrintRelease (MFP) Usage - Last year there were over 20,000 print jobs totaling up to almost 169,000 pages that were sent but never actually printed (because the sender did not go to machine and retrieve/print the job). How many of those would end up as unclaimed prints and eventually trashed/recycled? Eliminating unclaimed print jobs is a positive outcome.
Printer Removals and Relocations
Before we invest in newer desktop printers (think pretty much any HP in the district), there will be a various printer removals and relocations. The oldest and most unique devices will be taken out of service. We have been doing extensive data gathering this year (which has been shared) to identify the areas where making a change will have the least impact. "Least", not "No Impact"; we realize this will not be met with universal applause but it is a necessary step.
This is also a reminder that we do not support bringing in personal devices like printers. We do not have a lack of resources here.
Central Duplicating Price Updates
In order to better capture actual costs for materials and labor, we will be making several adjustments to pricing and material selection for 2024-2025.
These adjustments will not have a significant budget impact on the majority of print jobs. What will be most affected are specific types of requests that use specialty materials or supplies.
Most pricing updates will take effect in July-August.
Standard Printing Adjustment
- Black toner printing on letter sized white paper, colored paper, white and color cardstock will increase from $0.02/side to $0.03/side.
- Color toner printing on letter sized white paper, colored paper, white and color cardstock will remain at $0.05/side.
- 11x17 b/w prints will increase from $0.04/side to $0.06/side
- 11x17 color prints will remain the same at $0.10/side
Updated Options & Costs
2-part and 3-part Carbonless paper
- B/W print per 1 copy 2-part (white/yellow): $0.14 or $0.07/page
- B/W print per 1 copy 3-part (white/yellow/pink): $0.21 or $0.07/page
- Color print per 1 copy 2-part (white/yellow): $0.20 or $0.10/page
- Color print per 1 copy 3-part (white/yellow/pink): $0.30 or $0.10 per page
Sticker paper
- White sticker paper: b/w or color printing $0.25/page (1-sided only)
- Color sticker paper: b/w or color printing $0.40/ page (1-sided only)*
*Colored sticker paper stock may be limited in quantity and color options due to expense of this supply and deterioration if it sits unused for too long.
Binding
- Binding charges will be assessed at $.05 per wire or plastic spiral binding.
Central Duplicating Ordering/WebCRD will be getting an updated interface soon! Login process will be the same as before - logging in as Standard Account with usual username and password.
Infinite Campus Reminders
All Infinite Campus users are encouraged to set the default view to the "New" Look. The Classic view will remain available as a choice until summer 2025 at which point it will be removed as an option.
The new Infinite Campus experience contains all the same tools as the classic view and provides several improvements. New features include:
- A simplified navigation structure
- Responsive UI design
- A user-created menu of favorite tools
- Quick access to recently used tools
- Intuitive related tools toolbar
- Navigable breadcrumbs
- Robust in-tool person search
- A unified search menu for quickly searching a multitude of data
- A useful person information card

Summer Maintenance Suggestions
Digital Resource Requests
Requests via the form will now automatically generate a help ticket for follow-up.
App Catalogue Review
Based on the results of the staff survey at the end of the year that included questions on iPad app usage, the following apps have been removed. We will be doing additional review of math and ELA apps in particular this fall. Apps that are no longer being maintained or have been removed from the app store will also be purged from the self service catalogue.
If an app appears to have been removed in error, please submit a digital resource request for it to be reconsidered.

District Level Tech Priorities 2024-2025
Top 5 Foundational Priorities to support compelling vision/systemic collaboration:
Targeted stakeholder training
Examples: Training sessions throughout the year to keep us consistent with best practices, policies, and procedures. Known or likely training groups include office staff, Deans/APs, media paras/specialists.
Family engagement
Examples: Ensure all parents/guardians have accounts for Infinite Campus, Canvas, and Seesaw. Review tech role in non-English speaking household support. Update resources and communication related to device management.
Resource access management
Examples: Primarily focused on how Classlink tools (Launchpad & Rostering) are configured to provide a central hub for accessing materials and systems.
Cybersecurity systems
Examples: Review with all stakeholders the specific impact they have on proactive procedures for ensuring a strong cybersecurity stance, and also what role they would have in the event of an incident. Continue to implement infrastructure improvements to prevent, detect, and respond to any cybersecurity threats.
Physical Security Systems
Examples: Camera upgrades continue; keep buildings informed of progress on project, involved in system design, and updated on how to access and utilize the system. Work with new security coordinator to develop clarity on how these systems are managed.
To request tech help
The fastest and best way to get help is by opening a ticket using one of these contact methods.
Web: https://shakopee.incidentiq.com/ (Preferred)
E-mail: helpdesk@shakopee.k12.mn.us
Phone: 952-496-5100
If you need a call-back please add a good number and time to contact you in ticket.
Whenever possible and necessary we may also use remote support tools such as Splashtop to assist you.
Details help! For instance, student name and ID number is useful when submitting a ticket in regards to a student issue. Or letting us know if you already tried common troubleshooting steps such as restarting. "Student 123456 had this specific problem on their iPad starting at 9 AM this morning." is a much more useful starting point than "I have student with a problem." We appreciate the detail and it helps speed up the process of resolving an issue.
