MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Greetings MVCSD Community,
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone enjoys their time with family and friends this holiday weekend. This is an exciting time of the year, and Lincoln School celebrated Thanksgiving last Friday with their annual ENL Thanksgiving Feast. We welcome all in the Mount Vernon City School District, and I am so happy Lincoln has continued the tradition of celebrating with students who are new to the country and may not know as much about the holiday. Thank you, Principal Rebecca Jones, for creating such a welcoming environment at Lincoln!
Our Career and Technical Education students received quite a valuable educational tool this week – a brand-new Ford Explorer. Students in the Automotive Program will learn so much by working on that car, and I’m sure we all will see them working on our cars one day after they graduate! Thank you to Scarsdale Ford for supporting our students on the path to career-readiness! Our partnerships are so important to our programs, and they are continuing to grow and thrive. We are also thankful for Rockland Community College’s participation in our Automotive Program, and I am excited to see what’s next!
Please register for the i-Ready webinar next Wednesday, December 4. An i-Ready specialist will discuss the For Families Report and provide families with valuable information about the program. Click here to register for the Zoom. We are also holding Family Fun Health and Wellness Night on Thursday, December 5, at Mount Vernon High School. Click here to register.
We will hold a second town hall on our proposed building reconfiguration on Friday, December 6, at 6 p.m. Please join us at Graham School or on Zoom to learn more about the potential changes. We will also discuss revised building configuration proposals with the community as we develop a suitable and sustainable building model. Read more about the reconfiguration process by visiting our website.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. K. Veronica Smith
Acting Superintendent of Schools
