Attendance Matters ALL DAY, EVERYDAY!
Excused and unexcused absences easily add up to too much time lost in the classroom, putting students at risk academically. In order for students to learn and achieve their fullest potential, it is critical that they attend school and are engaged in the learning process. Student absences, whether excused or unexcused, impact a child's ability to succeed in school. Some absences are unavoidable. The important thing is to get your children to school as often as possible and on time! Please don’t forget to email: cogburnattendance@fultonschools.org (and cc the teacher) when your child is absent.
Additionally, please remember that the late bell rings at 7:40. Students need to be in their classroom ready to learn at that time. If you are a car rider, please leave a few minutes earlier in the morning to get your child to school on time. Lateness causes disruptions in learning, and it has an impact on academic success. You will receive an emailed letter from your school social worker once your child has accumulated 12 tardies. If you have any questions, please reference FCS Attendance Policy, https://www.fultonschools.org/attendancematters, reach out to the school, or contact Randi Downey, LCSW, school social worker: downeyr@fultonschools.org
Parent Perception Survey
Parents/Guardians,
Cogburn Woods and FCS values feedback from our stakeholders. The district is administering an Annual Perception Survey to students, staff, and parents/guardians from Weds. October 16th through November 22nd. After administration, the district will publish summarized reports. We will analyze the data for emerging themes on strengths and areas for growth. This will eventually be incorporated into the schools public Balanced Scorecard.
Please support our school and the love you have for our teachers, staff, students, and community by taking a few minutes to fill out this FCS survey!
CWE Founding Member Spotlight-Stephanie Franklin
My name is Stephanie Franklin, and I helped open Cogburn Woods in 2004. I grew up in a small town, Eufaula, Alabama and attended Auburn University. War Eagle! I have been living and teaching in Georgia for twenty-five years. I chose to surplus to Cogburn Woods in 2004. I’ve spent the last 20 years at Cogburn Woods because this building has become more than a school. It’s a community, a family, and a source of inspiration. My team has also been very important to me. I could not do this job without them! Every day I get to witness the growth and discovery of young minds, and there is nothing more rewarding than helping children realize their full potential! One of my favorite traditions at Cogburn Woods is the Spring Carnival. I love seeing all the happy families enjoy a great time together. A favorite memory I have at Cogburn is seeing the Seniors take their walk through the hallways they once strolled. It is the best feeling to see a former student in their cap and gown. My advice to others is to remember your passion. It is important to stay curious, be kind, and remember that the little moments often make the biggest impact.

Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week is October 21-25th! This year’s theme is “Life is a movie; film drug-free!” During this week, we will be talking about how to make healthy choices for our bodies by saying “no” to drugs and alcohol.
To help others have healthy food, we will be having our canned food drive to benefit North Fulton Community Charities throughout the week. The grade level that collects the most items by the end of the week will win a popsicle party!
This fun week will conclude with our second annual Red Ribbon Week Parade on October 25th at 9:30! Parents are invited to the view parade and cheer on their students! Please do not arrive before 9:05 as Hopewell Middle will be in the middle of carpool arrival.
