News from Eli Terry
Week of September 8th, 2023
Keeping our students, staff, and visitors safe is of the utmost importance. In order to do so, it is necessary to have procedures in place and practice them throughout the year. As you may know, schools are mandated by state law to practice emergency drills each month, which include fire drills, evacuations, and lockdown procedures. This afternoon we conducted a lockdown drill. Students and staff were not in danger, and all students and staff were briefed on the drill before it occurred.
If your child comes home and expresses fear or anxiety about this drill, or our past fire drills, please talk with him/her about the importance of practicing these procedures. They are only intended to keep everyone in our school safe.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Kenyon or Mrs. Hammer.
A Note from Your Principals
Here's our February attendance by the numbers:
- 10.16% (51 students) considered chronically absent
- 94.62% was the average percent of students present each day.
- Kindergarten has the highest number of students (15) considered chronically absent.
- Grade 3 has the lowest number of students (4) considered chronically absent.
- Grade 4 had the highest average percent of students present each day (95.26%).
- Grade 1 had the lowest average percent of students present each day (94.07%).
- 53 students have not missed a day of school as of March 1st!
Here's to hoping the the extra sunshine, spring like temperatures, and fresh air help find us closer to our goal of only 5% of students considering "chronically absent" and our school community achieving our daily goal of 95% or more of students present each day. March...in like a lion, out like a lamb!
GR3-5 SBAC/NGSS Testing Schedule
Grade 3-5 Families...Please mark your calendars for the specific days/times we'll be SBAC/NGSS testing. We ask that you try to avoid absences and disruptions to your child's daily schedule during these days/times.
Cafeteria Expectations
In early March, we welcomed a new Cafeteria Supervisor to our Eli Terry family - Ms. Ashley!
She's spent the past few weeks getting to know our students and the rituals/routines of our Cafeteria and lunch waves.
Prior to her joining us, teachers helped students "reset" and reminded them of the PAWS expectations necessary in order to ensure a positive lunch experience for all.
We would LOVE for families to reiterate these expectations at home by reviewing the slides below!

1st Grade Readers are the BOSS of their Reading
We are thrilled to share the exciting news from one of our first-grade classrooms!
Students in Miss DelVecchio's class have been hard at work learning a special song that empowers them to take charge of their reading skills like true bosses!
In this engaging activity, our students are discovering how to become the boss of their reading by following three key steps. First, they've learned to stop at the sign of trouble, recognizing when they encounter a challenging word. Next, they practice utilizing the strategies they've acquired to help solve the unknown word, whether through sounding it out, using context clues, or visualizing. Lastly, our reading bosses check to see if the word they've deciphered makes sense in the context of the sentence, ensuring a deep understanding of the text.
We are incredibly proud of our first graders as they embrace these essential reading strategies and continue to grow into confident and independent readers!
2024-25 Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration opened on Monday February 5th. If you have an incoming Kindergartner, or know someone who does, please share this information!
Below are the documents that are either posted on the website or given to Grade K parents electronically once they are fully registered.
We look forward to welcoming all our new Kindergarten Terriers!
Shout outs are a great way to express gratitude towards those who have made a positive impact in our lives. Whether it's a staff member, friend, student, or colleague, taking a moment to acknowledge and appreciate their contributions can strengthen relationships and bring our ET community closer together.
So, if you're feeling thankful for someone in your or your child's life, don't hesitate to give them a shout out! Go ahead, spread some love and appreciation to those who matter most to you.
