Back-to-School Edition
Orientation is required
This year all students are required to attend orientation before starting their classes. Teachers have been calling families to invite them to their sessions this next week (September 5-8).
During these orientations, students will get their Chromebook, go through a checklist with the teachers and receive a code that will unlock their courses.
Parents on Campus
Parents that wish to stay in the building while their student is in class, like PE, or participating in an activity, like STEAM Club, will need to sign in and be an approved volunteer with Hillsboro School District.
Submit the online application as soon as possible to start the approval process. HSD is requiring fingerprint clearance for all volunteers, but NOT requiring vaccine info 😊

Schedule Corrections?
Adding and dropping a course must occur during the first two (2) weeks of a semester. A student will receive a WF (withdraw fail) after the first two weeks unless there are extenuating circumstances. All adds/drops must receive Counselor &/or Administrator approval.

Students concurrently enrolled to HOA must get approval from their building counselor.
Monitoring Student Work
Parents can monitor student work and access grades in detail online through a Canvas Parent Observer account. Directions to create a parent account are on our website www.hillonlineacademy.org under For Families>Canvas Observer FAQs. To get a Student Pairing Code, ask your student to generate one from their account settings or you may contact any on-site staff member who can help you.
If parents want to contact individual teachers, they are encouraged to message them through Canvas messaging using their Parent Observer account.
Is your information up-to-date?
Verifying your student information is very important for parents/guardians to complete each year for their currently enrolled student(s) in the Hillsboro School District. Having accurate contact information for parents is critical for communicating school and district news, as well as attendance and emergency notifications. Online verification allows you to update information such as:
- Address and contact information
- Emergency contacts
- Parent/student relationship information
- Vaccination information
- Digital resources consent form (important to continue student use of digital resources such as Google Classroom)
How do I access Online Verification?
You will need a ParentVUE account and access to a computer or mobile device.
