Dear Parents/Carers,
I would like to start by thanking everyone for their support and cooperation with Polling Day. The children were so excited to be eating their packed lunches with their friends. Behaviour was impeccable and all logistics ran smoothly.
This week, we have had a lot of sporting events happening at various locations across the area. On Wednesday, there was an Inclusive Sporting Festival at The Kings School where the children were able to play a variety of sports alongside children from different schools, and today, some children took part in a Gymnastics/Dance Festival at The Hut in Airedale. On Thursday, a group of Year 5 and 6 girls took part in a Tri Golf Event hosted by Carlton High School. Everyone who took part had an amazing time.
A few Memorable Moments
This week, our Year 2 pupils had a wonderful visit to Willow Park, the local residential home. The pupils were welcomed warmly by the residents and shared how they really enjoyed seeing and spending time with the pupils, reading with them and talking about the swinging sixties – a recent History topic. This was a worthy visit for all involved.
To mark Polling Day on Thursday, we held our very own elections in school. Part of our British Values curriculum teaches the pupils about Democracy. The pupils were introduced to the manifestos of the Pontefract South candidates and they had to vote for their favourite standing. We had Julie Craig (Labour), Tony Hames (Cons & Unionist) and Oliver Luke Watkins (Green). Every child in the school had a vote and I can announce that Julie Craig (Labour) won the majority of the votes. The children thoroughly enjoyed being part of this formal process and having a real-life experience.

As the weather is hopefully taking a turn for the better, we are finally able to let the pupils go onto the field. This means that we are starting to collect a lot of un-named school uniform. Please endeavour to support us by making sure names are in all items – especially cardigans and jumpers – to avoid items getting lost. Thank you.
And finally… I am overjoyed to announce that Miss Whale had a baby girl this week, born 29th April weighing 7.9lbs. Both Elizabeth Rose and Miss Whale are doing well. Huge congratulations to the family. We hope to have a visit soon.
Have a lovely, longer weekend, remembering that school is closed for the Bank Holiday on Monday. Hopefully, the sun will shine for us.
Yours Sincerely,
Mrs Adams
