Weekly News, Updates, and Opportunities from SRMS
A Message from Dr. Ortiz, Principal of Sandy Run
Good afternoon, Sandy Run Families,
The past week has been one of many highlights - the beginning of which was last week's SpeakUp! event where over two hundred parents, students, and friends came out to engage in very important and meaningful dialogue around important middle school topics. This week, we were also proud to highlight our student of the month recipients (see below) who have demonstrated strong effort and character throughout the past month. Students' musical talents were on display at Tuesday night's Winter Band Concert, and we hope to see many of you here next week for the Orchestra and Chorus concerts. The week ended with a special surprise, as Sandy Run welcomed our new superintendent of schools, Dr. Smith, to the campus for a tour. Dr. Smith was able to meet many of our students and experience some of the daily Sandy Run excitement. We also were able to give Dr. Feeley - interim superintendent - a farewell and thanks for her efforts the past few months.
Please see the updates below for exciting opportunities and new events.
Sincerely,
Dan Ortiz
November Student of the Month Celebration
On Monday, students from each team in the school were recognized by their teachers and staff for displaying consistent character, effort, and positive traits on a daily basis. These characteristics are the epitome of who our students are and we are so very proud of all of our students! Keep up the great work!!!
SRMS Winter Band Concert
Tuesday evening saw some great musical talents on display. Mr. Horn and the SRMS band put on an exciting performance in front of a packed crowd in the SRMS auditorium. The students' musical talents were on full display, showing that not only that our kids are excelling in the classroom, but on stage as well. We are very proud of the very different ways our excellence shines through.
Annual SpeakUp! Event
Last week, dozens of SRMS students led a group of parents, community members, peers, and friends through a very thoughtful and meaningful set of discussions around some of the most important topics to middle school students. This partnership between the school and families is paramount to student success. We appreciate the guidance department for their leadership in once again hosting a fantastic SpeakUp! event at Sandy Run.
