Meet The Staff
Mr. Buchanan is a social studies teacher who loves to learn and share. His favorite part of his job is interacting with his students in various ways. He enjoys getting to know them better, sharing stories, telling jokes, and most importantly: teaching. He is kind and caring towards his students and always tries to make people laugh and smile. He tries to make his classes as interactive and engaging as he can and has fun while doing it.
Mr. Buchanan makes the most of his life by going to concerts, traveling, playing sports, going to baseball games, hiking, camping, gardening, and reading. He grew up in Michigan but moved to Colorado because he finds it pretty and has some family that lives here.
When training to be a teacher at CSU, he met Mr. Porzycki and was his student teacher for a year. When a job became available, he was eager to come back to Thompson Valley and now teaches in Mr. Porzycki’s old room.
An issue that he recognizes in our community is the growing distrust in one another and he believes that learning to trust each other would solve a lot of problems that we face as a society.
“Kindness really does go a long way…being a curious person versus a judgmental person is going to make you happier and make your interactions way more positive…so be curious and kind.” - Mr. Buchanan

Colorado Free Application Days
Overview
The seventh annual Colorado Free Application Days will be held on Tuesday, October 15th - Thursday, October 17th.
The Colorado Free Application Days campaign is an initiative designed to inspire more Coloradans to continue their education. From Tuesday, Oct. 15 through Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024, all 32 public colleges and universities in Colorado and several private institutions will waive their application fees, making it free for anyone to submit an application. By waiving application fees—a common barrier to higher education—Colorado Free Application Days aims to improve access to further education and training, which is becoming increasingly critical in the state’s rapidly changing economy.
The days cap off Colorado Applies Month, a five-week, statewide campaign that encourages high school juniors and seniors – and adults – to select an education or training option that’s best for them and apply to that program. The statewide push is designed to increase Colorado’s college-going and FAFSA and CASFA completion rates. The campaign aims to support low-income and first-generation students and to help keep Colorado students in state.

Students! Work toward earning the distinction of being a Literary Scholar! How do you do this? By reading and then logging pages! Reading for fun or for school counts for this program, so anything you read in classes or just on your own can be logged toward your total count. You will log pages on the ReadSquared website (tvhs.readsquared.com) or the ReadSquared app. The purpose of this program is to encourage reading and to recognize all that you gain from reading, such as increased vocabulary, increased empathy, and a broader worldview. If you have questions or need help logging in, please see Mrs. Bauer in the library.
It’s that time of year again. Are you asking, “What is the Deadline to order a letter jacket and receive it by Christmas?" Now's the time. Pre-Christmas Deadline will be here before you know it. Herff Jones' Pre-Christmas Deadline is October 1st. See below for ordering information.
