Adams Family newsletter
April 17 - April 21
From the Principal's Desk
So Mother Nature might not be too happy right now. We start the week off with 70s and 80s and end it with snow on the ground. The snow today was a slight shock to the system:)
We had another great week at Adams. Many of our students have completed both their reading and math MCAs. Our students worked really hard and we know that they all tried their best.
This Thursday is our K Registration night. We are very excited to welcome some new faces to Adams. If you have a child entering K in the Fall or know a family that does, please encourage them to come to Adams on Thursday at 5. This is a great opportunity to see the building and learn a few things about the kindergarten year.
Tuesday is a PAC sponsored restaurant night at Dino's Gyros. Go enjoy some good food and mention Adams. A percentage or proceeds comes back to our fabulous PAC group who provide many opportunities for our students.
Enjoy your week!

Dental Sealant Program
A dental sealant event will be taking place at Adams Elementary on May 17th-19th during the school day. This event is free and is available for students in 1st-3rd grade. A consent form, due April 18th, needs to be completed for a student to participate. See the links below for the consent form and information sheets about Dental Sealants. Dental sealants are a thin plastic coating that, when applied properly to the chewing surfaces of molar teeth, protects against tooth decay and cavities. A smooth chewing surface helps protect the tooth from decay by making it easier to clean with a toothbrush, and keeping food and germs out.

Adams Parent Advisory Council (PAC)
Items from our PAC
Parent Advisory Council participation:
In order to continue to offer fun free events throughout the year, we'll need a little help from Adams families next year. We would love to have you join the board (we're fun, I promise!). You don't need any experience; you just have to want to make Adams even more awesome for our students and families.
If a board position sounds like too much to take on right now, we could use your help with some projects next year--social media management, community outreach coordination, outdoor classroom project management, grant writing, restaurant night coordination, and Family Fun night coordination. If any of those things sounds interesting at all, let us know.
Clothing Needed:
RedHawks are in need of new/gently used clothing for students who have accidents/need a change of clothing while at school. Here's what is needed:
- Pants: sizes 5-14.
- Preferably athletic pants, sweats or stretchy leggings.
- XL shirts
- New underwear sizes 6-14
Teacher Appreciation:
Adams staff has been working hard all year to help our kids be successful. Let's show them our appreciation by stocking the lounge with all of their favorite things. Please order something off of this wishlist OR purchase it at a store & drop it off at the office for PAC by May 1.
Side note: we won't offer birthday grams next year, so if you'd like to send a bag o' goodies to a student or teacher, here's your chance:
PAC will deliver treats to students and staff to celebrate birthdays! Cost: $5 You can order or donate a birthday gram here. (https://my.cheddarup.com/c/2022-23-birthday-grams?cart=94ace1c1-1f50-4cb4-9ac3-298fee1f5acf%21%2142034918)

From our volunteer service coordinator (VSC)
THANK YOU to our amazing Volunteer Team! They have given over 1,100 hours so far this school year, which is outstanding.
But don't take my word for it:
Adams staff: "It is truly wonderful to see so many parents helping in the building."
Volunteer: "We love being at school. The people and kids are amazing."
Come read with us!
Work with our Kindergartners to build their reading and math skills (2-hour training is provided and required). Or come in once a week to help our First Graders with simple reading and math activities.
Paint & Sip Night is coming up on Thursday, April 27th. We're looking for a few volunteers to help set up and serve treats throughout the night. Sign up here.
Coke Gives:
Turn in codes on box flaps (where you open the box to access the cans) or bottle caps so we can enter them and earn money for Adams!

Muslim Students and Families to Observe Ramadan in March and April
The observance of Ramadan occurs during the ninth month of the islamic calendar by Muslims worldwide as a time of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. The 2023 observance began on March 22 and is expected to end April 20. Muslims in our schools and around the world will be fasting for 30 days from dawn to sunset, forgoing food and water the entire time of Ramadan.
This information is being shared to ensure staff are aware of the timing and potential impact of fasting on students and/or staff. Muslims may wake up early and stay up late for prayer and nourishment during this time. Please encourage understanding and empathy toward fasting students and keep lines of communication open and supportive of student and family needs.
Fasting students may request or be offered accommodations during Ramadan, including spending lunchtime away from the cafeteria or saving treats from celebrations to bring home.
Ramadan ends with a major Muslim holiday, Eid al-Fitr, or the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” which is expected to be observed on Friday, April 21 and or Saturday, April 22. This is a time of celebration that may include morning activities and a community celebration. Food, games and presents for children are also typically included with the festivities.
Thank you for your understanding and support of fasting Muslim students in our schools during this time.
