Gertie Belle Rogers Elementary
October 2024
A Note from the Principal's Office
Wow! What an incredible start to the school year! Our students have truly settled into their routines, are enjoying time with both familiar and new friends, and are putting in great effort with their schoolwork. It’s been wonderful to witness our school community working together towards a shared vision of success. In September, our focus was on fueling our journey with positive energy—something we saw every day through the smiles, enthusiasm, and dedication of our students.
We thrilled to announce the launch of our One School One Book program! Our students (along with you at home) have begun reading The Wild Robot, an adventurous and heartwarming story filled with excitement, important life lessons, and plenty of opportunities for reflection. This is a fantastic chance for you to engage in meaningful conversations with your children about the themes in the book, such as survival, friendship, and understanding the natural world. We encourage all families to join in the fun and enjoy the reading experience together at home!
As we move into October, our focus will shift to the Energy Bus rule: No Bullies Allowed. You can support this message at home by encouraging your child to reflect on their experiences and challenges. Some great topics to discuss include Responding to Negativity (What are some positive things we can say when we hear others being negative?), Staying Strong (How can we remain resilient and not let negativity affect us?), and Bullying (Why is bullying wrong, and what should we do if we or someone else is being bullied?). You can also talk about Spreading Kindness (What are some ways you can spread kindness and positivity in your school? Let’s brainstorm together!).
We’re excited to continue this journey together and look forward to another amazing month ahead!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Pierson

Cozy Coats for Our Community
Gertie Belle Rogers is partnering with our local Nedved Media radio stations, Q107.3, KORN Country 92.1, and KORN News Radio for the Cozy Coats for Our Community drive!
We will be collecting gently used or new coats for people in need. The Caring Closet will be the main beneficiary for the youth sized coats, and any extra adult sized coats will go to the Salvation Army.
There will be a bin inside the front doors of our school to put donated coats into. Please make sure the coats are free of holes and tears and are gently used. Thank you for helping keep the community warm this upcoming Winter season!
Red Ribbon Week
GBR will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week the week of October 23rd through October 31st. There will be dress up days, contests and prizes all reflective of this year's theme, "I Elect to be Drug Free!"
School CROSSWALK and PARKING
Parents, it is very important that you talk with your children about using the crosswalk each and every time they cross the street. The crosswalk is in place for the safety of all students, staff, and drivers.
As a reminder to everyone, there is NO PARKING allowed in the indent on the North side of the school. This area is for bus drop off and pick up of students. There is also NO PARKING in front of the school as this area is a DROP OFF zone only.
