Support a Shelter - Angel's Retreat
We wanted to thank all our students and families who donated to help all the animals at Angel's Retreat! We are so proud to say that we raised a total of $432.35! Our grade level winner was grade 2 with a total of $113.96. We are so proud of all our students and families to helping others and we think you are all winners!
We purchased a Vet IV Infusion Pump, dog treats and dog food. The infusion pump is a huge purchase for this facility as many dogs when given to Angel's Retreat are not coming in the best condition and need fluids. This will allow them to get what they need safer and faster.

Agricultural Literacy Week
March 17-21
This year our Agricultural Literacy week is March 17-21. We had a great time last year and were so spoiled to have the Northern High School Ag Students create a petting zoo and reach out to our families about the farm equipment. We will not have them with us this year as they will be at Northern Elementary. But this doesn't mean we can't make it special.
If we have any farmers who would like to bring their farm equipment on March 21 and park it in the back lot, we would love for the kids to see it and explore it some throughout the day.
I would love a petting zoo, but we don't have the staff to man that either, and all volunteers would require clearances. If you have your clearances and are interested in bringing an animal on March 21, please email me.
Please email me at mvazquez@northernyork.org or wesoffice@northernyork.org and let us know what you would like to bring for the day.
School Safety Drill
March 24-28
We will conduct a fire drill the week of March 24-28. This is only a drill and helps our staff and student prepare in the event of an emergency. Our teachers will review what to do during an emergency to support our students. Our number one priority is to always keep our children and staff safe.
School Board Meeting at WES
March 25 at 6:30 PM
The school board meeting will be held at Wellsville Elementary. We traditionally do one on the fall and spring at Wellsville Elementary. Thank you to our School Board for all you do to support Northern and Wellsville Elementary.
PSSA Update
Grades 3-5 Online and Paper Pencil
The Pennsylvania Department of Education requires that all PSSA testing must be completed online beginning in the Spring of 2026. In order to help us prepare for this transition, NYCSD will pilot online testing at the elementary level in Spring 2025. At Wellville our 5th grade class will take the Math, ELA and Science assessments will be online. We do not believe this will be a huge change for our students as they currently complete some local assessments already. However, we will be providing training for our teachers and students to support them in this required shift.
You are welcome to contact myself or Dr. Meakin if you have any questions about the requirement.
Grades 3 and 4 will take the PSSA with paper and pencil versions for this year and then we will shift to online next year as required by the state.
PSSA Logistics
Education Trips (Grades 3-5) are not approved during the PSSA window.
Absences/Lateness: Please notify the office if your Grade 3-5 student has an appointment.
Testing Time is scheduled from 9 AM to 12 PM on the days below.
If you have any questions or concerns please reach out. mvazquez@northernyork.org
