Wm. E. Hay
November Newsletter
Principal's Message
We have had an October full of activity at Wm. E. Hay Stettler Secondary Campus and Stettler Outreach School!
November is upon us and so is the winter weather! While our students are in the building for the large majority of the day, a reminder to do what you can to convince your kids to bring warm clothes to school. Students who are driving should have warm clothes packed in their vehicles too!
Report Cards will be emailed home to both students and parents on Thursday, November 7th. We will also be holding Parent Teacher Interviews on Thursday, November 14th from 4:00pm-6:00pm in the High School Gym. A reminder that you can check out marks anytime on PowerSchool, however, our PowerSchool Portal will be shutdown until November 7th as staff finalize marks and enter comments.
Our annual Remembrance Day Ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 7th. Friday, November 8th there is no school. There is also no school on Monday, November 11th as we honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our rights and freedoms. Classes resume on Tuesday, November 12th.
Pictures this year have certainly not gone as planned. Lifetouch will be back in the building on November 7th for photos for anyone that had their photos lost or that want retakes. They will be back again on December 4th for retakes once again. We apologize for any frustration or inconvenience the picture process has caused this year.
Our Career Fair was a great success and we are so thankful (and proud) of the amount of student participation and engagement even the day after Halloween and the first day of hunting season. While not all attended, those that did took a lot out of the day. Our Keynote Panelists of Dean Lovell (SolutionCorp), and Mark Siemens (Clearview Public Schools) and Gord Lawlor facilitated by Mayor Sean Nolls, spoke to critical characteristics of finding a career and being successful in that career. Their wisdom and encouragement were extremely well received by our students and we are grateful. I would like to thank the many community members and businesses who were able to spend their day at our career booths and talk to students about their profession. Finally, to our presenters who offered sessions on a number of career pathway topics and adulting topics, thank you!
I would like to take a moment to congratulate all of our teams and to acknowledge the parents and coaches of these athletes who have spent countless hours making sporting experiences happen this year. Thank you to everyone involved!
As always, if you have questions, please feel free to contact the school at 403 742-3466.
All my best,
Myranda Shepherd

Remembrance Day
We encourage everyone to take the time to pause in remembrance for those who have sacrificed for our freedoms and take the time to share this reverence with your children so they too understand.
In Flanders Fields
BY JOHN MCCRAE
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
A special thanks to Mr. Fleischhacker and Mrs. Spruyt for all of their hard work in organizing this important event and to our Stettler Legion, our local cadets and Stettler RCMP for their participation and support.
Parking Lot Registration
We have finished our parking lot registrations this year. This year, we are trying something new. We have zoned our parking lot into different colours. Students got to choose which area they parked in as then they still get to have the joys of parking by friends. Each student who parks in a zone is responsible for keeping that area clean. Please have conversations with your child about keeping their zone clean. As community members drive Veteran's Way (50th Ave) each day, they should drive by a tidy parking lot. Zones will get warnings about the cleanliness level, as will parents, but if students can not be respectful of keeping their zones clean, they will not have the privilege of parking in our lot.
News from the Outreach Campus
This past month we had a Thanksgiving meal at outreach for our students and staff. Wonderful food with great students and staff was well attended and enjoyed by all.
Foods - Mrs. Hawkins has been cooking with our students! Brownies with Madi and Natalie. Tomato Soup and garlic knots with Tori, Jei, and Phillip. Gingerbread cookies with Story and Robyn.
Art - We have been busy with pumpkin carving, a messy but fun activity, decorating coffee sleeves, pumpkin flower art.
HYC - started up another course with our students Learn ON! HYC has dropped off a pumpkin for their annual pumpkin carving contest. We always have students excited to do this and enter the contest for a chance at a pizza party. Mrs. Jack has been taking some students over to HYC to access their gym and let our students enhance their athletic abilities. Thank you Heartland Youth Centre for letting outreach use your gym!
Volunteering - We went to the Hub to help the Stettler Board and Trade set up tables and chairs. They are hosting the business and citizenship awards. Congratulations to all the award recipients.
Outreach has a new pet! A 9 year old corn snake. Meet Cornelius!
Watch your school email for your due dates on all your assignments and courses, as an automated email should have been sent out.
Any questions or concerns please feel free to contact your teacher.

School Council - October Events by Julia Henderson
Hello! Happy Fall from Students Union!
The month of October was a calm, but exciting month!
Thank you again to The Brick, as they allowed two lucky students to use two of their sofas to watch the football team’s home opener! The two winners of our high school scavenger hunt back in September loved the comfy chairs!
We held a Candy Corn Ball Toss fundraiser from the 28th to the 31st. It was $2 for three throws!
Finishing off our month we had our Halloween costume contest! Judges handed out for best costumes.
Looking ahead to November, we have our Remembrance Day Ceremony on November 7th.
Back by popular demand, on November 29th we will be hosting a Jr. High Dance. More details to follow.
Stettler Elementary Partnerships
You may have heard about a number of fundraisers happening around the school, like popcorn sales, bake sales, cake sales, wiffle ball sales, hot chocolate sales and the list goes on!
We are thankful to Mr. Bayer for organizing partnerships between the SES and Wm. E. Hay TA classes to raise money towards WaterFirst to bring healthy drinking water to Indigenous communities. You can watch more about WaterFirst below.
These SES classes/Wm. E. Hay TA class partnerships will remain through the rest of the year to participate in a number of activities together even after our WaterFirst Fundraisers are over.
