Wishing you and your families a very restful, peaceful, and enjoyable Thanksgiving break! Reflecting upon this time of thanksgiving, I am reminded of the words of Pope Francis from remarks he made in 2020:

"The Catechism states that every event and need can become an offering of thanksgiving. If we view life like this, then “thank you” becomes the driving force of our day.

This is the crux: when you thank someone, when you give thanks, you express the certainty that you are loved. And from this understanding, we contemplate the rest of the world which appears infinitely more beautiful to us.

After all, if we are bearers of gratitude, the world itself will become better, even if only a little bit, which is enough to transmit a bit of hope, and the world needs hope."

So I pray that this Thanksgiving provides you and your family an opportunity to offer sincere and genuine thanks for the blessings in your lives and, in doing so, you are able to bring to the world the hope it needs.

As many are aware, the 1st trimester officially came to a close yesterday, Monday, November 25th. With this in mind, please note that 1st Trimester Report Cards (K-8) will be sent home on Friday, December 6th. This provides teachers appropriate time to grade remaining assignments, review make-up work, etc. prior to finalizing grades.

In addition, with this upcoming Sunday, December 1st marking the 1st Sunday of Advent, we are beginning our preparations for the coming of Christmas. This includes Advent confessions for student when we return from the Christmas break, as well as our annual Jingle Mingle to be held on Wednesday, December 18th beginning at 5:30pm.

This year, due to Mr. Buchanan joining our school community later into the 1st trimester, we are adding some additional elements to our beloved Jingle Mingle in lieu of our Christmas Concert. This includes a brief prayer service in the Church, followed by a candlelight procession prior to the annual tree lighting, hot chocolate, and carols. And, of course, voting on our annual Snowman Decorating contest (see below for details)! I highly encourage all families to join us on the 18th beginning at 5:30pm in the Church for what should be a prayerful and joyous celebration in preparation for the coming of Christmas. Please note the Christmas Concert will return bigger and better next school year!

Join us for another spectacular show presented by the FJVD Drama Club! Tickets are now on sale for Shrek, Jr. at http://fjvd.booktix.com. The shows are December 7th at 7:00pm and December 8th at 2:00pm.

In preparation for our annual Christmas Shoppe, students have been sent home with an informational flyer and envelope for budgeting purposes. Please check your children's folders for more information, or see the flyer attached below. Looking forward to seeing you at the Shoppe!
