Matawan-Aberdeen Connections
August 2024 Newsletter
Superintendent's Message
Dear Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District Community,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year and to our new district e-newsletter – Matawan-Aberdeen Connections! It is with great pride and pleasure that I extend a warm welcome to our students, families, staff, and community members. The start of a new school year brings with it excitement, anticipation, and the promise of new opportunities for growth and learning.
The district is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every student can thrive. Whether your child is entering preschool or kindergarten, transitioning to a new school, or continuing their educational journey in our District, we are dedicated to ensuring they receive quality academic programs, support and services.
I encourage you to stay connected with your child's school and our district throughout the year. Building connections between home and school are key to student success. Please take advantage of the many opportunities to get involved, whether through volunteering, attending school events, or participating in parent-teacher organizations. Together, I am confident we can create a vibrant and supportive learning community.
As we embark on this new school year, I want to express my gratitude for your continued support and partnership. It is an honor to serve as your superintendent, and I look forward to working together to make this year a successful and rewarding one for all.
Thank you for being a valued member of the Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District community. Here's to a fantastic school year ahead!
Sincerely,
Nelyda Perez
Superintendent of Schools
How to prepare for the First Day of School
- Mark your calendar! Students return on Thursday, September 5. Please remember that Thursday, September 5 and Friday, September 6 are early dismissal days. The board-approved calendar for the 2024-25 school year is available here.
- Fill out the National School Lunch Program application to see if you qualify for low-cost or free breakfast and lunch. Learn more here.
- Bookmark marsd.org. After collecting feedback from community members and staff, we plan to launch our new website this fall. For now, be sure to check our district website for pertinent information for the 2024-2025 school year.
- Review the district's mobile device policy. In communicating with parents, staff and our students, we recognize students’ use of electronics has increasingly become a distraction in classrooms and can be detrimental to the educational, social, and mental-health goals MARSD aims to foster. It often interferes with student learning and negatively impacts students’ mental health. The recent Surgeon General Report, identified increasing concerns among researchers, parents and guardians, educators, and healthcare experts about the impact of social media on youth mental health. We find the growing numbers to be alarming; hence the need to enforce district policy and adherence to the code of conduct. Please read the district's mobile device policy and review it with your child(ren).
