Important information about Vaping
According to the recently released Pennsylvania Youth Survey, vaping (using a device with a heating element to vaporize and inhale tobacco or marijuana) has risen significantly among high school students in the past 3 years. The survey revealed that an average of 28% of all CB high school students have vaped in the past month. Of those vaping, 54% of students are using nicotine, and 24% are using marijuana. The physiologic, psychologic, and addictive effects of vaping are only beginning to be understood; however, early research suggests that the long-term impact of vaping may include permanent lung damage, addiction, and abuse of other substances.
Please visit the CB West Student Assistance Webpage, and scroll to the “Resources” section at the bottom to access the articles: “How Can I Tell if My Child is Vaping or Juuling?” and “Electronic Cigarettes – Infographic” from the US Dept of Health and Human Services.
Please feel free to contact any member of the Student Assistance Team (listed on website) if you need additional information or have concerns about your child.

Vaping Consequences and Presentation
Please review Board Policy 222 regarding tobacco use. We are experiencing an increase in the number of students vaping and want you to be aware of the consequences for violation of this policy. In addition to attending the cessation program and paying the fines outlined in the policy, offenders will also be given a Saturday detention for the first offense, two Saturday detentions for a second offense and an Out of School Suspension for a third offense.
On November 16, Mr. Dave Fialko from the Council of Southeast Pennsylvania, will speak to our students about vaping and the effect it has on their health and wellness. Thank you for your support as we continue to educate students about vaping while holding offenders accountable for violating School Board Policy.

Good News About CB West Students
Art 2, Art 3 and AP Studio Art Classes Visited the Michener Museum of Art
CB West’s Art 2, 3 and AP Studio Art classes had the opportunity to visit the Michener Museum of Art in October. Students viewed “30 Years: Art at the Michener” as well as other incredible exhibits. The students were able to directly bring concepts back to the work they are doing in their classrooms at CB West. It was a wonderful and engaging trip for our art students!
Congrats, Kelly!
Congratulations to Kelly Cressman! Kelly recently entered a contest for the upcoming Bohemian Rhapsody movie. Applicants were to submit a vocal clip singing a portion of the song. Those chosen would have their voices blended into the soundtrack for a scene in the movie. Kelly’s submission was one of the many chosen. Way to go Kelly.
