September Newsletter from Lincoln!
Lincoln Families!
Now that we are a few weeks in, I hope that your child has been coming home each and every day sharing the great things that have happened thus far and the many that are ahead! The smiles and learning within Lincoln is already taking hold. I have had a chance to be in many rooms thus far and know that this will be a year with limitless possibilities!
This past week we had our first PTA Meeting at Lincoln as well as our Parent Orientation on Thursday evening. So many families the PTA event and were able to attend in the K-2 or 3-5 timeslots! Teachers got to share firsthand all of the great systems, supports, and instruction ahead!
Today we had our first fire drill at Lincoln and it was fantastic! With the new construction, and new doors, all of our students and staff safely exited the building during the drill. Since safety is our number one priority, we will have numerous drills throughout the year. During our year we will have 3 fire drills, 2 lock downs, 1 relocation, 1 shelter in place drill (severe weather) and a bus evacuation. If you have questions about any drills, please reach out!
I have included a few highlights from the latest week with pictures of the comfort dog, library and more!
If you need anything, let us know!

Annual Safety Drills
The safety of our students is always a top priority at our school. Our goal is not only to provide a safe environment, but to also prepare our students, staff, and school community to know how to respond if a crisis arises. To that end, each year, schools are required by Illinois School Code to conduct safety drills.
This year, as in years past, we will do 2 lockdown drills, 3 fire drills, 1 bus evacuation drill, and 1 shelter in place drill. Our school will also have a relocation drill in the Spring of 2025. For lockdown drills, parents have the option to opt their student out of the drill. The student will still be in the building during the drill, but will sit in a room with a different teacher and talk through the steps of the lockdown procedure instead of taking part in the drill with their classmates. If you would like to opt your student out of lockdown drills, please complete the Safety Drill Opt-Out Form. Our first fire drill was today, September 20th and our first lockdown drill will be October 1st.
Safety During Arrival & Dismissal
It has been reported that parents and students are crossing the street in the middle of the road and not using the correct intersection. Please remember that safety is our number one priority and we should follow the rules of the road to ensure we are safe at the beginning and end of the day for arrival and dismissal! Thank you for understanding!
Parking at Prince of Peace
During arrival and dismissal it has been reported that cars are not safely entering their parking lot as cars have been reported driving fast and exiting in the entry way. Please remember to be safe and follow the rules of the road when driving your child to and from Lincoln. Thank you for understanding!
Arrival
As noted from the 1st day, and last year at Lincoln, buses will pull up on Ridgewood for students to enter Lincoln through Doors #2 and #3.
Walkers will also enter through Doors #2 and 3.
For student drop off, families electing to drive their student(s) will pull into the re-done arrival/dismissal loop off of Farmgate and wrap around while pulling up to the end of the sidewalk to drop off/ their student(s). Parents electing to park and drop off their child will also use the student drop off location in the re-done arrival/dismissal loop off of Farmgate.
Families leaving will make a right back onto Farmgate.
Please do not park at Prince of Peace parking lot and walk your child to the school doors as it is dangerous with other families driving through the parking lot.
Thank you for your understanding!
Dismissal
For dismissal, the process will mirror arrival. Students exiting Lincoln will be lined up near where families dropped of their student(s) or parked and walked them to the drop off location. This will be the parent pick up location. As noted from before, and the 1st day of school, staff will be out their to assist
Again, families driving to Lincoln, to pick up their child should pick them up in the parent pick up location. If that involves parking, and walking to get your child, your child is not a walker and should be picked up in the parent pick up location.
Families leaving will make a right back onto Farmgate.
For students taking the bus home, biking, and walking home, they will exit the building off of Ridgewood to walk home or go onto their bus.
Attendance Information
As we begin another school year in District 15, I want to highlight the importance of daily attendance in your child’s academic success.
Regular attendance is key to academic achievement and personal growth. Each day in District 15 offers new opportunities for learning, and we ask that you prioritize your child’s presence in school. Research shows that attendance directly impacts academic performance and helps students feel more connected to their school community.
This year, every District 15 school is encouraging all families to commit to missing 9 days or less for school success. Every lesson, discussion, and interaction contributes to your student’s progress, both academically and socially. Being in school not only fuels learning but also opens doors to extracurricular activities and social connections.
While we understand that occasional absences may happen due to illness or other circumstances, please ensure your student stays in communication with their teachers and promptly completes any missed work.
Thank you for your partnership in making this a successful year of growth and learning.
A Familiar Face is Back at Lincoln - Mrs. Jeanette Sander!
After spending the past two years at Lincoln as an Interim Assistant Principal, Mrs. Sander will be back at Lincoln! If you happen to see her outside at arrival or dismissal, be sure to say hi! The staff and students were elated to see her on Thursday!
