Mr. Kirschenbaum, ELA
This week, we will have the opportunity to compare our understanding of the book, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry and the movie version. It is a great week to find an awesome book to enjoy over Thanksgiving Break. Students should continue to read their independent books. If you are interested in adding to our classroom collection, please visit our Amazon Wish List.
Mx. Gomez, Math
Here is a link to Tutoring videos for Math 6 Unit 4 in case any parents would like some guidance to help their students as there is an RCT post-Thanksgiving break. https://youtu.be/oR8A_rFxV5w?si=lhEfa3nW9bZjhTlC
Students should use the scratch pad on Pear to show their work for this coming week ONLY. Work is required for every question that requires math calculations.
If you are able to donate, I have linked the math Amazon Wishlist. https://www.amazon.com/registries/gl/guest-view/3HGDSTYZTUUQL
Ms. Wesselhoft, Geography
We have started Unit 3: Middle East and North Africa. Maps have been labeled, new words defined, and thematic maps explored (or finishing for homework if they didn’t finish on Friday). Next week, we will review all materials on Monday and have a quiz on Tuesday.
After the break, we begin the theme of the unit: Three Monotheistic Religions. I have sent home permission slips for our field trip (see below). Please, if you have not done so already, return permission slips ASAP or email me if you have questions, comments, concerns.
About our field trip on 12/6:
As a part of the sixth grade Geography curriculum, students participate in a field trip to Adas Israel Synagogue, The American Fazl Mosque, and Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church, here in DC. These three local places of worship help our sixth-grade geography students learn the history of the world’s three major monotheist religions as part of “Unit 3: The Middle East & North Africa.” We will specifically be learning about the history, beliefs, & symbols of each religion. It is not a trip to “do” a religion, but rather to understand the basic foundations of each religion. On Friday, December 6, Team Abuja students will hear from leaders in each of the institutions and have a chance to ask questions while in the space these leaders represent.
Materials to bring
• Kids Ride Free Card (if you have one)
• A lunch that we will eat at the park
• Wear walking shoes
• Water bottle
• Pencil and clipboard
• String backpack or tote to carry
• Wear layers
We want to thank our partners in advance for helping to make this experience possible and for taking time to make this field trip possible for each of our five Deal 6th grade teams.

Ms. Sagan, Science
Hello Scientists! Great job on with all of the labs over the past week. We learned about weathering using skittles, and about erosion and deposition with sand and water! Next week is a short week, we have no school Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday for Thanksgiving Break!
Next week, students will complete a Gizmo lesson about weathering and erosion and will also do a lesson about the importance of procedures in science involving playdough.
No Roots quiz next week since it is a two day week!
