Astrodynamics Rocket Lab
As part of their recent astronomy unit in Earth Science, students participated in the Astrodynamics Rocket Lab, where they learned about spacecraft, launch vehicles, and orbits. Through simulations, students tested the physics of space travel, explored vehicle design, and worked to understand how rockets are built for successful launches.
The main challenge was to design a rocket with booster stages capable of carrying a payload to space. Students applied engineering concepts to plan, test, and refine their designs. They also built and tested balloon rockets as part of the process to better understand rocket propulsion and forces.
This project gave students a real-world connection to current space exploration efforts, including NASA and SpaceX's work on sending humans back to the Moon and beyond.
Take a look at the students' projects and designs!
FOCUS ON READING
Juniors from Ms. Bruce's class are participating in a student-led Literature Circle discussion.
CONGRATULATIONS ZACK!

BUILDING SLEDS IN WOOD WORKING!
ART FASHION!
Students in the Sculpture class were given the challenge of designing a wearable paper hat that reflected a personal trait or interest. We started by experimenting with different techniques to create textures and forms using paper, while also exploring how contemporary artists use paper in their work. The project involved a lot of trial and error as students developed their designs. Once the hats were completed, we held a photoshoot where students took turns photographing each other and showcasing their creations.
LEARNING GAMES IN SPANISH!
Spanish 1 & 2 are reviewing for tests by playing games! This month we introduced Spoons, students need to match the Spanish word, English word and a picture. It has been pretty competitive.
DRESS UP DAYS ARE COMING!
THANK YOU DR. MOSHER FOR ORGANIZING OUR SECOND ANNUAL CAREER FAIR FOR STUDENTS!
On Wednesday, Dec 11th, Watervliet High School held a career fair throughout the school day. Students were presented with activities to help them prepare to take the next step after high school. Some activities were intended to spark students’ interest in developing a vision for their future. This helped them think about what they could do to help achieve their goals.
Activities included writing a resume, making a vision board, and researching trade schools, colleges, and career options. We also had many volunteers from the community who came in to talk to the students about different careers, volunteer opportunities, job benefits, and interviewing skills. The Career Fair was coordinated by WHS mathematics teacher Dr. Donya Mosher.
ART ROOM CAREER FAIR ACTIVITY
At the HS career fair, art students took a moment to envision their futures at the age of 35. With creativity and ambition in full swing, they crafted vision boards to bring their dreams to life. The boards were filled with images representing the careers they hoped to build, the homes they imagined living in, and the families they aspired to have.
STAFF SPOTLIGHT--DR. DONYA MOSHER!
I grew up right here in beautiful Berrien County. I love Silver Beach and went cross-country skiing at Sarett. LMCollege was in my backyard. I would walk through the cornfield and go feed the ducks. My childhood home no longer exists because Napier is now 4 lanes instead of 2 but my parents did not move far. I attended LMCatholic for high school. I was a state cross country and track runner.
I went to LMCollege while I went to high school. That was very unique at the time. I also attended LMCollge on a scholarship after high school. I then transferred to WMU to get a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education with a double major in Physics and Math. After I received my degree I started teaching high school at Battle Creek Lakeview. While they I completed a Master’s Degree in Physics and a PhD in Science Education from WMU.
I have 2 brothers. One still lives in Berrien County and the other is in Washington State. I have a son who is currently a Freshman in high school. He keeps me busy with his desire to practice golf and pool. My husband of 4 years is Joe.
I am currently teaching Geometry. I am qualified to teach all math and science subjects 6-12 grade. I have also taught college math and physics classes at Kellogg Community College, Kalamazoo Valley Community College, and WMU.
I practice a lot of pool and golf. (See above) I also watch alot of crime and medical dramas. I love Bones, Criminal Minds, and NCIS.
I am excited to be able to work with such great students, parents, and colleagues.

GIFT OF LIFE
This week, our students had the incredible opportunity to participate in a presentation by the organization, Gift of Life, during their Biology, Anatomy, Chemistry, and Health classes. Here are some highlights from this enlightening experience:
- Learned about organ donation and transplantation.
- Discovered the types of organs and tissues that can be donated.
- Informed about the number of people waiting for donations and how matches are made.
- Given the chance to handle plasticized organs.
- Tried on glasses that simulated corneal blindness to understand the importance of cornea donation.
It was a remarkable experience that sparked meaningful discussions and increased awareness about this vital topic. We are proud of our students for their engagement and curiosity!
