TRANSPORTATION SURVEY
Dear Families,
Each year we ask the community’s help in completing a short survey to help determine ridership information for next school year. Your responses help us assess transportation needs and improve overall busing experience for our students and families by focusing routing on students who will use the service.
Keep in mind, you will receive a unique survey link for each of your enrolled children and if you indicate not using the bus now you can resume service by contacting the Transportation Department at any time.
Survey responses will be accepted June 3 through June 14, 2023 and if no response is received, students will be assigned the choice on record as of the last day of the current (23/24) school year.
Sincerely,
The CRSD Transportation Department
BOGO BOOK FAIR: JUNE 3 - 7
Our BOGO Book Fair starts this Monday and we are excited to get books into the hands of our students to enjoy during the summer. The fair takes place June 3-7, with Family Night on Monday, June 3rd from 4-7 PM. This link has the schedule as well as other information related to ewallet, taxes and more. Please contact the library with any questions. Thanks and we look forward to seeing you at the fair!
MESSAGE FROM THE LIBRARIAN
Just a friendly reminder that all books are due back to the library by Friday June 7th. Our students borrowed over 33,000 books this year, so getting all of our books back is exciting and challenging. Thank you for supporting our school library this year.
CAREER DAY!
Goodnoe Elementary School will be hosting Career Day on Monday, June 3. We offer this opportunity for parents within our school community to come into the classrooms to share insights about their careers and provide details about necessary education and training for their jobs. Career Day helps to expose students to a variety of careers to help jumpstart their thinking about the future by giving students a closer look at different career paths. It also helps to connect students’ learning to the real world by helping them learn about different career possibilities to explore for the future. We genuinely appreciate the support from parents and the many volunteers we have each year for this fun and educational event.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR PICKERING MANOR PERFORMERS!
A big congratulations to all your amazing singers who performed for the residents of Pickering Manor! It was a beautiful morning to walk over to our performance and the students matched the day with their beautiful voices!!
Your young musicians represented Goodnoe with their talent and poise and I know they brought joy to many people with their voices. After the performance we talked about the good feeling you get when you know that you have done good for others 🙂 I hope they take this pride with them and celebrate being "the ones who can make a difference" 🎼
I hope you enjoy just a few pictures from our performance and our fun walk over and back. Thank you for your support and as always... Keep on Singing!!

READING TIDBITS & TIPS
Summer is right around the corner and it is an opportunity for children to do whatever makes them happy. It’s a big chunk of time though. To better prepare your child/children for their transition to the next grade level this fall it is helpful to do activities to maintain and grow their skills over the summer. Please see the link below for activities through Amplify that families can use with their child/children to practice and reinforce the Five Pillars of Literacy: Phonological Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension.
https://www.mclass.amplify.com/homeconnect/
In addition, research shows reading is an effective way for children to maintain or grow their skills over the summer. Weave in visits to the library where your child can choose books that interest them and that they would like to read.
We also encourage you to read to your children. This can help build comprehension skills. Please see the link below for ways to help your child grow their thinking skills as you read to them.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1iyT99YEGWAYRmyzcq5KtiSNXKA5XK0xZU_Ofi89nqg0/edit?usp=sharing
Most importantly…reading to children teaches them to associate books with love and affection, so read aloud and read often with and to your children. It will make all of you smile!
From Goodnoe’s Literacy Specialists…have a wonderful summer!

A NOTE FROM THE NURSE
Medication Pick-up Procedures:
Please remember to pick up your child's medication by the last day of school. Per CRSD medication policy, students are not permitted to transport medications home. Any medication remaining at school after the last student day will be discarded. Updated physician’s orders are required for the start of each school year. Please stop by to pick up any forms needed for next school year in the health office. The health office is open from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm.
Footwear:
To help provide a safe environment for your child, please be sure your child wears sneakers or similar soled shoes for gym class and recess. It is strongly recommended that flip flops, sandals, or crocks without back straps not be worn as they do cause a hazard in school and on the playground.
Ticks:
We have seen an increase in ticks at recess over the last two week. Please make sure you check your child(ren) daily when they get home.
Summer examinations for incoming 3rd & 6th grade students:
Per Pennsylvania state requirements, the health office requires a current physical examination form for every incoming 6th grade student. We can accept any exam completed as early as September 1, 2023, per state regulations. This would include physical examinations completed last school year (5th grade year).
Per Pennsylvania state requirements, the health office requires a current dental examination form for every incoming 3rd grade student. We can accept any exam completed as early as September 1, 2023, per state regulations. This would include examinations completed during their 2nd grade year.
These forms can be submitted to katie.engelhardt@crsd.org and can be found on the CRSD website or can be picked up in the health office.
DENTALS & PHYSICALS
Per Pennsylvania state requirements, the health office requires a current physical examination form and dental form for all new incoming students. Physical exams are also required for all students entering 6th grade and dental exams are required for all students entering 3rd grade. We can accept any exam completed as early as July 1, 2023, per state regulations. This would include dental examinations for current 2nd grade students and physical examinations for current 5th graders dated after 07/07/23. These state forms can be found at crsd.org and can be submitted to katie.engelhardt@crsd.org.
SCHOOL DRESS CODE REMINDERS!
Please see the CR policy on Dress and Grooming:
The Council Rock School District Board of School Directors has a policy in effect to monitor inappropriate attire. Attire and grooming can influence students’ attitudes towards themselves and their school. Council Rock students are urged to emphasize cleanliness, neatness, and generally acceptable good taste in their dress and grooming habits. In an effort to maintain an atmosphere that is most conducive to learning, student attire is expected to be appropriate for school.
Appropriate dress is that which is neither offensive nor distracting. It should not present a safety hazard or disruption to the learning environment. Clothing which advertises or promotes the use of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco products is not considered appropriate. Clothing that conveys in- appropriate messages is not permitted. Other types of inappropriate clothing include low riding jeans, tight/form-fitting fabric tops with exposed midriff/shoulders or straps less than three fingers in width, and very short skirts/shorts. Students will be warned about inappropriate clothing initially with a letter sent home from the school. In some cases, students may be asked to cover up the inappropriate clothing. A second incident will result in a phone call to parents. If incidents continue, parents will be asked to come to school to bring more appropriate attire for their child. In addition, students are strongly discouraged from wearing flip-flops or sandals to school. There is a high incidence of injuries related to students tripping while at recess and walking through the hallways when wearing these types of footwear and our aim is to provide an environment that is safe for all

PARENTAL CONTROLS FOR DEVICES
These days most children have access to an iPhone or an iPad, whether it is their own device or one belonging to their parents. However, this could lead to the children being exposed to inappropriate content, online predators, and inappropriate text messaging. Therefore, parents need to provide guidance and take precautions. The easiest way to keep track of your children and their phone usage is to monitor the device and text messages. We also strongly suggest disabling group messaging on your child’s phone or ipad, as many inappropriate conversations occur on this type of messaging, which quickly escalate into conflict and drama. If there are conversations that lead to highly inappropriate content or cyberbullying, your child can be held accountable for being part of the conversation.
Below are links to help you set up parental control for your child’s apple or android device.
NO DOGS/PETS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS
When escorting students to and from school, please do not bring pets on school grounds or into the school building. Many of our children have pet allergies or are afraid of animals; therefore, the presence of animals in school or on school grounds is prohibited. Some classes at Goodnoe Elementary School do participate in the Nor’Wester Reading Dogs program, so on occasion you may see dogs visiting. These dogs are specially trained and licensed to work in the schools with students. No other animals are permitted on school property during school hours. Please refer to our board policy for more information on animals in school policy 718 https://go.boarddocs.com/pa/coun/Board.nsf/vpublic?open#
