VMMS Community Connection
Week of September 16, 2024 - September 20, 2024
Greetings, Viper Community!
It was another amazing week at VMMS! Our students are fully immersed in their IB units of study. The best way to show what you know is to share learning with others. Vipers hone their IB Approaches to Learning skill of Communication on a daily basis. They participate in group structures like Socratic Seminar or conduct presentations in front of their classmates after a collaborative project. In most subject areas, Communication is a graded IB criteria. Ask your Viper what are some structured communication opportunities they participated in this week!
Please call the office at (760) 726-5766 or visit the office M-F from 8:00-4:00 if you have any questions or need assistance.
Thank you!

September: Attendance Awareness Month
The national attendance awareness campaign theme for 2024 is “Be Present, Be Powerful!” Parents/guardians, students and staff can work together to offer positive messaging and practical routines to improve daily attendance.
Daily attendance is key to helping each student reach their dreams of a successful future and showing up on time every day is an important life skill that will help students graduate from college and keep a job. When students do not attend school regularly, they miss out on fundamental academic and social skills and the chance to build a habit of consistent attendance.
Attendance Accountability & Communication
Communication between the home and school about attendance is a priority and we implement several processes to ensure that parents are informed about their child’s attendance and are actively engaged in supporting positive attendance.
Monitoring Daily Attendance
● Parents/guardians have access to Aeries Parent Portal to monitor their child’s attendance at all times, this also includes tardies to class periods.
● Parents/guardians will receive an automated notification when their child is absent from school and the school has not received a notification from the parent/guardian with the reason for the absence. Upon receiving the notification, a parent/guardian must contact the office and provide the reason for the absence. Please call our office (760) 726-5766 to report and verify absences for your student.
Thank you for your support. Please see our VUSD Attendance resources for additional information.

On behalf of all VMMS faculty and staff we appreciate and value our family partnerships. Connectedness to each course's unique offerings will foster open communication between home and school.
Important Reminders for Drop Off/Pick Up Procedures
Please ensure that our Viper Students are safe by following the VMMS expectations for drop off in the morning and pick up in the afternoon.
1. Our main school parking lot (by pool) is NOT for student drop off. It is a Staff, Visitor, or AM PM parking lot during regular school hours.
2. Please be aware of students and staff crossing the parking lot and walking on the sidewalks that intersect the entrance/exit driveways.
3. The street in front of the school on Civic Center Drive is NOT a safe drop off location. It is a major traffic hazard to stop in front of the school to let your student out.
*Staff will be present next week in the school parking lot distributing reminder flyers. Thank you!
Supervised Pick-Up and Drop-Off located on Eucalyptus Ave. or enter through the field at the Citrus Ave. gate. Utilize the Pick Up/Drop off Loop for easy access. This typically flows very quickly and is SAFER for our Viper students.
EPIC Viper Reminder & Student Handbook Update
Does your Viper ride a bike, skateboard, or scooter to school? We want to ensure their safety in their travels to and from home. Please see our reminders about safety below:
Bicycles/Skateboards/Scooters - California law requires students to wear a properly fitted and fastened helmet that meets safety standards while riding any type of bicycle, skateboard, or scooter to school. Bicycles, skateboards, and scooters are to be used as transportation to and from school only, they may not be ridden on campus at any time. VMMS requires that a helmet be worn daily, and students must bring a lock to secure their items. VMMS is not responsible for theft or damage of bicycles, skateboards, or scooters brought to school.
Please see full VUSD Bike Protocols here
Students must walk beside their bicycles, skateboards, and scooters while entering and leaving campus, including in VMMS parking lots.
Important Note: There was a portion of the "rules" section that did not get printed in our 24-25 Student Planners. Please review the full student handbook HERE. A copy will also be emailed to all Viper Students.
Thank you for helping our Vipers show up as their best selves everyday!
VMMS School Site Council (SSC)
Please take the time to vote for our SSC Parent/Guardian representative for the 2024-2025 school year by Thursday, 9/19/24. Thank you!
