December 1, 2023
Today NR kicked off academic recognition breakfasts starting with the NRHS Extension, celebrated our student-athletes as they signed their National Letters of Intent, taking their first steps towards their college career and took a trip to RCC to familiarize high schoolers with the college process/experience.
FLEP ceremonies, forensic team competitions and professionalism workshops are just some of the tailored opportunities where students thrived in the month of November. These District programs and the many more we will share as the year continues, have been put in place to not only better help learners succeed, but be recognized and celebrated for their unique abilities.
There is much growth happening in North Rockland schools thanks to the contributions and opportunities shaped by our talented staff and wonderful community. Without the support of our residents and stakeholders we would not be able to offer this high level of quality programming to students that they truly deserve.
Firmly rooted in our community, the District’s fiscal future is brighter than it’s been in decades and thanks to the advocacy and dedication of the Board of Education, our finance office, leadership team as well as continuous support from our lawmakers, taxes are lower now than they were four years ago. We've been able to do so much in terms of upgrades to our buildings, facilities and academic offerings through creative budgeting, grants, additional state aid, maximizing COVID resources and rigorous programmatic improvement without raising the tax levy at all.
The Referendum Vote this coming Monday is one more opportunity to access money already saved that will continue to support our students and move the District forward. If approved, NRCSD will be able to make significant and necessary upgrades to building and athletics facilities at NRHS without raising the tax levy or by asking to access additional funds. These construction projects will generate revenue in the form of building aid at approximately 80% of approved project costs.
The new fields and sport facility is a shared space at the heart of our towns that everyone can enjoy which will help attract hardworking families to our area while adding property value for residents.
You are reminded that the community can have their voices heard on Tuesday, December 4 regarding the Referendum. I encourage everyone to vote.
