March 2025
Attention 7th Grade Parents!
Important Info for Scheduling for Next Year!
Current 7th grade students will receive their 2025-2026 class request forms sometime before Spring Break. Please take time to look over the forms with your students when they receive them and discuss which classes they want to take as 8th graders.
These forms will need to be turned in by April 17th to put in their requests during their science class. This is the first week back after Spring Break.
If you and your student wish to no longer continue with performing art classes, please make sure to communicate that with the performing arts teacher.
We will send a reminder via ParentSquare when students receive their forms. If you have any questions, please contact Marilyn Izak, mizak@goshenschools.org.
Together We SOAR!
GJH students can SOAR to success by demonstrating Safety, Ownership, Achievement, and Respect. Students can earn SOAR bucks to redeem in our school store for rewards. Ask your child how they have demonstrated these qualities this week! Click on the document below to see a sampling of rewards available in the GJH SOAR store!

German Class Update
The 3rd trimester has started, and the new German students participated in a spelling bee. Students spelled either English or Spanish words with the German alphabet. Class winners were: Dominik Mancilla, Jose Tenopala Rico, Noela Miracle, Madeline Harkenrider (pictured), Mariangel Escandela Amaya (pictured), Liam McCullough, and Aiden Linn.
German Club!
The next German Club meeting will be Thursday, March 13th, from 4-5PM in Room 117.
EL Student of the Month
Each month, Mrs. Baughman and Mrs. Tijerina choose an EL student of the month based on grades, improvement, attitude, effort, attendance, and behavior. The student receives a class acknowledgment, a bar of chocolate, a certificate (for home and the hallway), and a message to parents about the award.
January's EL student of the month was Fermin Gomez Mena.
February's EL student of the month was Vanesa Paniagua Tapia.
Keep up the great work, Fermin and Vanesa!
Piano Lessons
Dr. Liz Felsted, choir accompanist at GJHS, is offering after-school piano lessons for students interested in developing their musical skills, whether they’re beginners or have some experience. Lessons will be once a week at 4:30-5:00 PM or 7:45-8:15 AM, at $20 per session. We will cover piano basics like scales, hand positioning, and reading music. Dr. Felsted is also happy to incorporate any songs or styles students enjoy to personalize their learning. If you are interested or have any questions, feel free to contact Dr. Felsted by phone or email.

Attendance Matters!
At GJH, our goal is for every student to have at least 94% attendance. This means students should not be absent more than 10 days during the school year (excused or unexcused). Every day at school is an opportunity for your child to learn and have experiences that contribute to academic and personal growth.
When a student misses 4 or more days of school, a letter is sent to parents to make sure they are aware of the absences. After 7 absences, another letter is sent and a staff member may contact the parent to schedule a meeting and/or discuss how can support the student with attendance.
If you have concerns about your child's attendance, don't hesitate one of our administrators or school counselors. Also click on the attachment below for important information and tips to help your child achieve strong school attendance.

Dress Code
Our goal is to help students understand and evaluate appropriate settings for formal vs. informal attire, which is a skill they will use in the world beyond school. Students will see this addressed starting on the first day of school.
We appreciate parents working with us on this. If you have questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact an administrator.
