Two Students Advance to St. Louis Spelling Bee Finals
After competing in the Greater St. Louis Regional Semi-Finals, Pippa Gutting (STEAM Middle) and Gabby Clark (Combs Intermediate) have advanced to the Greater St. Louis Spelling Bee Finals, placing among the top 30 students in the St. Louis area. In the district finals earlier this month—both students went through several rounds, and judges had to pull extra word lists—the two champions continued their success at the regional semi-finals. They will compete in the finals on March 1, with the winner earning a spot in the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. Learn more about the grade-level winners here.
Wedgwood Ranks 3rd Statewide for Math Growth
Ferguson-Florissant School District’s Wedgwood 6th Grade Center was awarded the PRiME Center Growth Award by the PRiME Center at St. Louis University. The recognition was awarded for exceptional student growth in Mathematics during the 2023-24 school year. Wedgwood was 3rd in statewide Mathematics growth for all middle school students.
“Congratulations to Principal Larrew and the dedicated educators and support staff at Wedgwood for helping the school become the second-fastest improving middle school in Missouri for math and ranking 14th in reading based on the 2024 Missouri Assessment Program scores. I look forward to seeing what’s ahead for our students and their families," said Ferguson-Florissant Chief Academic Officer David Murray. Learn more about Wedgwood’s award here.
St. Louis County Library Book Bus Visits Schools
St. Louis County Library and Great Southern Bank launched the SLCL Book Bus, a mobile library providing students with access to books and resources. The debut took place at Parker Road Primary, where students explored the bus and met Curious George and the Man in the Yellow Hat. The visit allowed students to explore literacy in a whole new way.
