The Wolfpack Edge

Greetings
The Wolfpack Edge serves as a weekly communication to our parent community. We'll send it to your inbox each Thursday during the school year. If you would like the newsletter to be sent to an additional account, let us know! Grandparents & supporters may request to receive the communication, too. Please email Mrs. Kathy Mouw with contact information: Kathy.Mouw@westernchristianhs.com
Because of our final test schedule on both Thursday and Friday, we will not have chapel this week. We especially anticipate our chapel next week, when our ProLife Pack leads us. They are working on a chapel that celebrates life, sings praises to God for all life, includes Scriptural promises of God’s creation of all life, and highlights some personal stories from familiar faces! Tune in on January 23 for a special chapel!
Please consider joining us for chapel by subscribing to Western Christian High School Livestreams on YouTube.

Reminders & Updates
FOOD SERVICES UPDATE
Western Christian is proud to offer an outstanding food services program for our students, including breakfast options. We are grateful to Head Cook Nancy Driesen and her dedicated team for preparing nutritious, delicious, and cost-conscious meals each day. We would like to inform parents that, due to ongoing increases in food costs, meal prices will be adjusted beginning second semester. Over the past three years, Western has only increased meal prices by a total of $0.25 per meal, despite significant inflation in grocery costs. Starting next semester, the price per meal will increase from $4.25 to $4.75, and the cost of extra milk will rise from $0.40 to $0.50. These adjustments align with the National School Lunch Program standards. If you need assistance with paying for school lunches, free and reduced-price lunch forms are available in the front office. Thank you for your understanding and support as we continue to provide high-quality meals for our students.
TUITION BALANCES
Please remember to check tuition balances on JMC. WCHS Board Policy states, "One-half of tuition must be paid by 1st-semester exams or arrangements must be made with the finance committee."

STUDENT SUPPORT
At Western Christian High School, we recognize our students’ unique creation and the variety of God-given talents and skills. We know that each student presents a unique combination of such strengths. We believe it is our responsibility to meet students where they are at in their journey and equip them with the tools and resources required to exceed their potential. To meet the need, we have a Student Support Team with a variety of resources. Go here to learn more about who to connect with!
Welcome to the Pack!
Mrs. Rebecca DeVries
When we return from Christmas break, Mrs. Rebecca DeVries will be serving as a longterm maternity sub for Mrs. Laurissa Keefer! Rebecca lives in Sioux Center with her family and brings a rich background in education and the arts to her temporary position at Western Christian High School. She has taught English and language arts across various grade levels, including 5th grade at Sioux Center Christian, 8th grade at Annapolis Area Christian School in Maryland, and high school English at Unity Christian in Orange City. Currently, Rebecca co-owns and runs the Fruited Plain Cafe with her husband and serves as the worship coordinator at Covenant CRC. During her time at Western, she looks forward to teaching juniors and seniors in the English department, fostering a positive and engaging learning environment while Mrs. Keefers is on maternity leave.
Ms. Isabel Boer
We look forward to having a student-teacher at WC for the spring semester! Ms. Isabel Boer is a senior at Dordt University, studying Secondary Education with an emphasis in Social Sciences. Originally from Dyer, Indiana, she has come to appreciate the welcoming community in Northwest Iowa. This January, Isabel will begin her student-teaching experience at Western Christian, working with Ms. Bierma and Mr. Broersma. She is excited about the opportunity and looks forward to seeing how God will use this experience to shape her future career in education.
Mrs. Megan Kooima
We are excited to introduce our first new hire for the 2025-26 school year! Mrs. Megan Kooima will join us as the new Director of the Learning Center.
Since 2019, Mrs. Dirksen has poured her heart into the Learning Center, blessing our community with her leadership, love for the Lord, and unwavering commitment to each student. Her prayerful desire has been to transition the program to a new leader when God provided the right candidate for Western.
As for next year, Mrs. Dirksen is still discerning God’s plans for her. She may continue serving at Western in a different capacity within the Learning Center, or the Lord may lead her to new opportunities where her gifts can shine in fresh ways.
Megan currently serves as the principal of Ireton Christian School, where she has led transformative initiatives since 2020 to enhance academic performance, engagement, and overall school culture while staying rooted in Christian values. With over 18 years of experience in education and a background as a business owner, The Excel Achievement Center in Sioux Center, Megan is passionate about fostering inclusive, Christ-centered learning environments.
Megan's leadership includes developing specialized programs to support diverse student needs, including those with dyslexia, and empowering teachers through professional development to improve classroom engagement for each learner. She is committed to equipping students to become compassionate, Christ-centered leaders and continues to make a lasting impact through her dedication to faith-based education.
