School Site Council and SGT Committees
We are pleased to share that we have successfully recruited three parent volunteers to participate in the School Site Council and School Governance. Next week, we will provide a link to the ballot for an official vote to confirm their roles on our SSC for this school year. Additionally, we are still seeking one additional parent to complete our committee.
What is the SSC and SGT?
The School Site Council (SSC) is responsible for the following tasks; review school and student performance data, establish/review school goals, monitor implementation of the site plan for student achievement, develop/oversee the parent involvement policy and home school compact and annually approve and recommend the SPSA to the SDUSD Board of Education for approval (categorical budget and school goals).
The Site Governance Team (SGT) ensures shared decision-making occurs on instructional programs including; changes in the school’s subject emphasis, school-wide student discipline plan, site security plan, and multiple-site assignments for applicable programs.
Our SSC and SGT meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every month.
We look for a two-year commitment for new members.
If you are interested in joining our Correia SSC/SGT please fill out the nomination form.

Correia Middle School's Chapter of Tri-M
Congratulations to the 2023-24 Correia Chapter of Tri-M! This student leadership group was selected by the National Association for Music Education as the National Junior Chapter of the year for 2023-24. Read the press release here. Correia Middle School's Chapter of Tri-m serves as our Student Music Leadership Council for the Correia Music Department. Tri-M is a national honor society that recognizes students that have exceeded both academically and musically. Each student is chosen by their character, cooperation, leadership, service and scholarship. It is the only honor music society for middle/high schoolers and requires dedication and hard work.
Congratulations!
Marc Dwyer,
Music Director
To all Dana and Correia parents,
Did you know?
The last few years, Dana Middle School and FODAC have sponsored a Lego Robotics club and that school teams compete in the FIRST Lego League (FLL) Challenge competition every fall. Correia students have also been welcome to join as participation in this activity helps students improve upon foundational coding and robotics principles, before they can eventually join a Robotics team at the high school level.
***Last year Dana/Correia had 3 teams competing in FLL!**
While Dana administration and FODAC support this program by providing the space and equipment, this is an entirely PARENT coached activity. ALL PARENTS of students who are participating need to attend practices and support students to be successful. The FLL season runs August to November/December (depending on how far the team advances in the competition) and practices are typically held after-school 2x/week during this period. There are some costs associated with registering a team for competition, which the club can provide assistance with for families that may need it. For more information see the video and information on this link:
Past year's coaches are willing to help mentor new parents and coaches get teams off the ground at Correia and Dana. If you have an interest after
reviewing what this is all about, fill out the interest form and you will be contacted with more information in early August. Again, remember that
we need parents willing to coach teams. Team size maximum per competition rules is 10, but ideal size is probably around 4-6, so we need
parents coaches willing to take this on.

Update on Student Planners and New Digital Resources
We want to inform you about some changes regarding student planners due to recent funding limitations.
This year, we have ordered a limited number of physical planners, as a recent school survey also indicated that almost 80% of our student population was not utilizing the planners effectively. To better support our students and their organizational needs, we are encouraging the use of a digital alternative. We will encourage students to use Google Calendar as a planner to help them manage their schedules and assignments more efficiently.
Additionally, we will be providing Correia Planner Pages, which will be posted electronically for all students. These pages will be reviewed by teachers and will include essential information such as:
- School rules
- Dress code policies
- Attendance policy
- Other important school policies
We believe that transitioning to a digital planning system will not only be more beneficial but also more engaging for our students. We encourage all families to support their children in using Google Calendar and accessing the Correia Planner Pages to stay informed and organized.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we implement these changes. If you have any questions or need assistance setting up Google Calendar, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Best regards,
Correia Administration
