Real Time Translated Closed Captions in PowerPoint
If you have EL students in your classroom, you might find the closed caption translation feature in PowerPoint useful.
In the web version of PP (via office.com)
Click Slide Show-> Always Use Subtitles-> Subtitle Language-> select language
Unlike Google Slides: Voice Type Directly on to PowerPoint Slides
This UDL feature can work for any student/educator! Simply click on the microphone icon in PP to start voice typing on your slides plus it is not limited to just English! (Google Slides has voice typing but it only works with the speaker notes, not the slides themselves.)
A.I. Coaching in PowerPoint
Did you know PowerPoint online has a built- in coach that can give you live feedback as you practice presenting and then synthesize a report that evaluates your pacing, pitch, use of filler words, informal speech, euphemisms, and culturally sensitive terms, and it detects when you're being overly wordy or are simply reading the text on a slide and offers suggestions for improvements. There is a body language option which I have not been able to test, but Microsoft describes it as geared toward virtual presentations looking at how well you look at your virtual audience, distance from camera, etc.
Imagine having students all practicing their speaking skills, getting real actionable data simultaneously. Students can take a screenshot of the report to reference later or turn in as evidence of effort and/or growth.
Want to try it out? I would love to work with you and your students. It is always nice to have another set of hands in the classroom when trying something new. I am just an invite away!
Rehearse with Coach:
1. Log on to office.com
2. Click on the PowerPoint Icon
3. Open/Create a Presentation
4. Click Slideshow
5. Click Rehearse with Coach
6. Enable mic if prompted
7. Press start
But Everything is on Google Slides!?
No worries!
You can download a Google Slideshow as a PowerPoint file and then upload it in PowerPoint online. It takes about 15 seconds and a handful of clicks.
