Emerson Update 10/25/24
EMERSON MIDDLE SCHOOL MISSION
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Another Marking Period in the Books!
We're wrapping up a successful marking period! Our students worked diligently all week preparing for and taking their common summative assessments. We're proud of their hard work and dedication.
New Classes, New Beginnings
As we embark on a new 10-week cycle, please remember to check Parent/Student Connect for updated class schedules.
Students with 10 week courses will have a new course starting Monday 10/28.
NEW Bag Policy: A Safer Learning Environment
To further enhance safety within our school, we’re implementing a new policy starting next week: Beginning with the next marking period, we will be implementing a new bag policy to enhance safety within our school.
No backpacks or drawstring bags will be permitted in classrooms or hallways.
Students may bring small personal items like pencil pouches or small purses to class.
We understand that this may require some adjustment, and we will be implementing a two-week grace period to allow for a smooth transition.Students may continue to bring backpacks to and from school but should use their lockers to store items between classes.
Staying Safe and Informed
Recent swatting incidents in Michigan schools have highlighted the importance of safety. Please be assured that the safety and security of our students remain our top priority. We are working closely with local authorities to monitor the situation.

*** NEW Bag Policy ***
Dear Emerson Middle School Families,
We are writing to inform you of an important change to one of our school policies, starting with the new Marking Period, Monday, October 28,2024.
New Bag Policy
Beginning with the next marking period, we will be implementing a new bag policy to enhance safety within our school.
No backpacks or drawstring bags will be permitted in classrooms or hallways.
Students may bring small personal items like pencil pouches or small purses to class.
We understand that this may require some adjustment, and we will be implementing a two-week grace period to allow for a smooth transition.
Locker Training
To ensure a smooth transition, we will be implementing a locker training program during Eagle Time over the next few weeks. This training will help students familiarize themselves with their lockers and proper locker usage.
Benefits of New Bag Policy
Our new bag policy supports Emerson’s school vision by reinforcing S.O.A.R. expectations.
SAFE - By storing all bags in our lockers, we can reduce hallway and classroom congestion, tripping hazards, concealment of prohibited items, and physical peer to peer conflicts.
ORGANIZED - By storing all bags in our lockers, students will learn to travel to each of the six classes with scheduled stops to their locker to gather supplies.
ACCOUNTABLE - By storing all bags in our lockers, students will learn to be responsible, use their time wisely, and learn to plan and prepare accordingly for each class period.
RESPECTFUL - By storing all bags in our lockers, students will learn how to respect their belongings and learn boundaries in shared environments, promoting mutual respect among peers.
By November 11th, students who bring backpacks or drawstring bags to class will be asked to store them in their lockers.
We believe this policy will contribute to a safer and more focused learning environment for all students and staff.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work together to implement this change.
With Eagle Pride,
Bruce Rivera

A few key things to note:
The Livonia Parent Advisory Committee (LPAC) seeks parent representation from each Livonia Special Education Program. Parent representative volunteers have a child/children with a disability(ies). The LPAC also provides advisory input on matters regarding improvement of Special Education services within our school district.
Our Facebook page shares information of interest to our families and students.
Here, you will find electronic flyers for programs and events geared toward kids!
We hope that you enjoy the many offerings from around our great community!
If you have a program that you'd like to advertise, please email your flyer to Stacy Jenkins at sjenkins3@livoniapublicschools.org for approval. We follow a set of guidelines for approval and are only able to accept flyers for non-profit organizations that benefit our local children.

Emerson Clubs
Emerson Middle School has several clubs where students can connect with their peers, learn a new skill, or simply hang out with friends. We've had a volleyball club, robotics club, GSA club, and homework club. We would love to offer something for everyone! Our club list is always growing, and we're always open to new ideas. If your student has a dream club in mind or if you'd like to be an awesome advisor, let us know! Joining a club is a great way to make new friends, learn new skills, and have a blast!
The LLCC is a competitive cheerleading program specifically designed for middle schoolers, and we would love for your school to be part of helping us grow and promote this program!
Our program offers a chance for students to experience the fun and excitement of competitive cheerleading, all while building confidence, teamwork, and athletic skills. Participants will have the unique opportunity to train and compete alongside their peers from across the community, preparing them for future high school-level cheerleading.
Attached, you will find flyers with more details about the program, including registration information via web link and a QR code on the flyer.
Our goal is to provide a supportive and inclusive environment for all skill levels, so whether a student is new to cheerleading or has prior experience, they would be welcomed with open arms.
If you have any questions or would like more information, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.
We look forward to working together on this opportunity for the middle school students of Livonia!
