HITEON HIGHLIGHTS NEWSLETTER
December 2020
Principal's Message
Greetings Hiteon Families,
As we enter December, we have all developed a new school rhythm. We want to say how proud we are of our Hiteon students, families, and staff. At Hiteon, we talk about being our BEST (Brave, Empathetic, Safe, and Trustworthy). Our Hiteon community has shown what being BEST is during this pandemic. Families and students have established a sense of a school routine from their homes. Parents have become an educational coach for their children by working with teachers to reinforce a learning schedule. Students have stepped up to the challenge and are becoming well versed in online learning.
We have recently had the opportunity to visit many of our virtual classrooms, and it is evident the class communities being built even on Zoom. Everyone has taken on this unprecedented challenge of learning remotely with grace and perseverance. Kudos to our families, students, and staff! We are pleased and amazed to see the Hiteon Heart beating strong and our sense of community never waning even during these difficult times.
Be well, and stay safe!

Hiteon's Library Book Distribution
To keep our Hiteon Community safe, healthy and help prevent the spread of COVID 19 we ask that you delay your visit to the Library book distribution if you or your family are not feeling well, tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 10 days, or have been in close contact with someone testing positive for COVID-19 in the previous 2 weeks.
This is a good time to remind your children to practice the 3 Ws:
- Wash your hands
- Wear a face covering
- Watch your distance – 6 feet apart.
Your children will look to you to model, teach, and reinforce these safety practices.

Inclement Weather During Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL)
All classes and school schedules will continue on time in Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL), even if district facilities are closed due to inclement weather. In other words, we will not have any "snow days" in CDL.
If district facilities are closed, any on-site classes/programs including Limited In-Person Instruction (LIPI) will be canceled. All daytime and evening activities/events also will be canceled.

Report Cards Are Paperless—Set up your ParentVUE Account Now!
Report cards will be viewable through ParentVue on February 5th.
The Beaverton School District is transitioning to electronic report cards for all students. The electronic report cards will be accessed through ParentVUE (mobile and desktop). If you have not set up your ParentVue account, you will need to do that by January 2021.
There are resources and guidance on how to set up a ParentVue account. Please view the FAQ for instructions on setting up your account. There are several benefits to paperless report cards. You will be able to view grades days after grading days, rather than wait up to two weeks for a report card to come by mail or in your child’s backpack. In addition, moving away from paper is environmentally friendly and cost-effective for the District.

Cold Weather Doesn’t Mean You Need to Stay Inside!
With the change in weather, it can be tempting to stay indoors. We know that our kids need to move every day and the extensive associated benefits of physical exercise. Here are some tips to help you build healthy (and fun!) habits into the remote school day:
- Start your day by taking a walk or a bike ride. Do you still travel to a different location for school? Then make that trip an active one! Too far to walk? Try parking halfway and walking the rest. Commit to walking or biking 2 days a week and start building those healthy habits.
- Take movement breaks in between classes or at lunch time. A brisk walk around the block will get your heart pumping and re-energize you for the rest of your day.
- Need to pick up your library holds or free lunch? Bike over to your pickup location and reap the benefits of an active trip while checking off your to-do list.
