October 30, 2024 - NEWSLETTER
Estimadas familias de Woodcrest,
November is almost here! Please remember that we do not have school this Friday, November 1. Staff will be engaging in professional learning.
This week, we introduced a communication tool to all staff called Talking Points. This is an SMS texting tool that allows us to communicate with families via text in real time and in their preferred language. Some of you may have received a text regarding attendance in the past.
Teachers and staff will now have the option to use this tool to communicate brief messages with you. If you receive a text from your child’s teacher, you can text back. You may also choose to download the Talking Points Family app to read and respond to messages. The app is not required. You can text back and forth without the app. Please be aware that if you do download the app, you will only get messages through the app and no longer through SMS text.
The addition of 2-way texting does not impact any other ways we communicate with you. We will continue to communicate via email, phone, and in-person as well. We’re just adding another tool to our toolbox.
Tomorrow is Halloween, and we know that students and families participate in a variety of Halloween-inspired activities. Please remember we do not celebrate Halloween during the school day. Please keep costumes and treats at home to enjoy after school.
In partnership,
Jaime Nymann
Principal
Issues with MyStop app
If you have bus riders in your household and use the MyStop app, please be aware that the app is experiencing issues. Due to a software configuration problem, the MyStop app (that provides real time bus route information) is not functioning properly. All of the entities that support the app are actively working to correct the problem. Transportation will notify bus riding families when the issues has been resolved. Thank you for your patience. Any questions can be directed to transportation@district16.org.
Recess during cold days
Today, students experienced their first "cold recess" so I wanted to send the following update.
All students will be expected to go outside for recess unless the weather does not permit. Students will need a written note from a physician to be excused from recess. - The outside temperature is 0 degrees and/or the wind-chill factor is –10 degrees Fahrenheit

Exploring Autumn Leaves
Second-grade students have been exploring the sequence of autumn leaf patterns during our number corner. Recently, they brought this knowledge to life by observing the leaves around the playground during recess. Eager to learn, they examined their surroundings and successfully identified examples of pinnate and palmate leaves, deepening their understanding of nature right outside the classroom.
