The 2024-2025 school year is coming to a close. This will be our last RHS Weekly Update of the school year. I want to wish all of our students and families a safe and enjoyable summer. I also want to welcome Ms. Cheryl Schipper as the next principal of Rockland High School. If there is anything I can do to assist you or your family as we close out the school year and transition to the next school year, please contact me before the last day of school so I can assist you. Guidance
Last week, guidance counselors worked with Juniors in English classes.
The following things were discussed:
College Letters of Recommendation - discussion included Who to Ask, When to Ask, Do’s & Don'ts, and what documentation will be needed for recommenders (teachers and counselors). There is an Identifying Your Recommenders Worksheet and Tips for Getting Great Recommendation Letters in students' Guidance Google classrooms.
All students created a résumé in SCOIR -(which can be used for recommendation letters and job applications).
Common App (the Common Application) - the Common App is one application that students can use to apply to multiple colleges. Students created a Common App account and began filling out the demographic and education sections. Common App information will save and roll over on August 1st; see here for more details.
All Juniors are or will be working on a draft Common App essay in their English class. The writing prompts can be found here. Grade 12 English teachers will continue working with students on these essays in September, and we will host an Essay review night with College Admissions Reps in the Fall.
We will also be hosting a College Application Boot Camp in August. Details will be shared soon. This is a great opportunity for students to get a head start on applications before school begins.

A message from Advisor Ms. Thompson!
Art Club-Thanks for making every Wednesday so much fun this year! I look forward to seeing you all next year for more art making and sing-alongs! Have a great summer!!
Planning Ahead for NHS
Next year there will be a change to the timeline for the National Honor Society.
Instead of an induction ceremony in May, it will be on Tuesday, December 10.
All current juniors who were inducted this year will be part of that ceremony, and we will induct new members from next year’s junior and senior classes who meet the eligibility requirements and apply for acceptance. This change means that students in the Class of 2025 can apply to NHS after 1st term and use their acceptance on college applications.
Juniors in the Class of 2026 can also apply after the first term, and then be part of NHS for a longer period in their high school career. Due to these changes, I want to STRONGLY recommend that students who believe they will have a 3.8 GPA and want to apply for NHS make sure their community service hours are complete before the end of the first term in the fall. The school required 25 hours is the minimum an NHS member should have, and more than that makes your application more likely to be accepted by the faculty committee.
Please see Ms. Walsh in room 121 if you want to discuss NHS before summer break.
Final Exam Information
Final exams for grades 9-11 students begin on Tuesday, June 11th, and conclude on Monday, June 17th.
During our final examination period, regular class sessions will be suspended. Students taking two exams in one day must arrive before 9:00 a.m. and remain in school until the conclusion of the second exam period at 1:30 p.m. Students taking only one exam on any given day must arrive on time for that exam and may leave campus when the exam period is concluded. FINAL EXAM GUIDELINES
All students are required to take final exams during the exam period. If an alternative arrangement is needed for medical reasons, the student should contact the assistant principal or principal to pick up a final exam make-up pass.
Exams will be two hours in length.
Underclassmen's Final Exam grades will be recorded in a separate column on the final report card and will constitute 10% of the final grade.
Students must remain in the testing classroom until the end of the exam period. Students are encouraged to bring reading or other school work in case they finish exams early. Students cannot get dismissed from an exam once it has begun.
A student who reports to school after 9:05 AM must report to the main office and will not be allowed into classrooms for testing without the permission of a teacher or administrator.
