SCHOOL CLIMATE SURVEY
We have only 38% of F.AVE families who have completed the Family Climate Survey. I would like to share a friendly reminder that your voice is very important and we want your feedback! Responses are confidential and will be combined with the survey responses of other F.AVE families to identify areas in need of improvement. See directions below.
The City Schools of Decatur appreciates the contributions of parents, students, and employees. Each year, CSD takes part in annual school climate surveys and climate star ratings organized by the Georgia Department of Education. The outcomes will contribute to our district's School Climate Star Ratings, which are included in each school's yearly College and Career Ready Performance Index. All public schools in Georgia participate in a Student Health Survey, Parent Survey, and School Personnel Survey as part of the school climate survey process. Please complete the F,AVE Family Climate Survey. It will take no more than 10 minutes to complete. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions. Thank you for your time and participation.

Fifth Avenue Kilometer Kids
Open to all students: F.Ave Kilometer Kids is for students who want to develop a love of running and living an active life. There are limited spaces so we will hold a lottery to choose 30 students to participate this spring. The form to enter the lottery is now open and will close on Tuesday, February 11th. The results of the lottery will be sent out by email on Thursday, February 13th. Kilometer Kids will practice on Wednesdays from 2:30 to 3:15 pm. The first practice will be on Wednesday, March 5th. If you have any questions about Kilometer Kids, please direct them to Ms. Finch by emailing hannah.finch@csdecatur.net
Please read and acknowledge the Kilometer Kids Participation Contract before signing up for the lottery.
Fill out this form to enter the chorus lottery: Kilometer Kids Lottery Form
Also, if anyone is interested in helping out at a few practices, we would love your help. The kids love when their teachers surprise them and come out to run with them! I'm including a link if you'd like to help out. You may choose as many or as few days as you'd like. Kilometer Kids will take place on Wednesdays from 2:30-3:15.

Spotlight on Specials - Spanish
Our third graders have been busy with a fun creative drawing activity! They are drawing wonderful pictures of their families and using their Spanish skills to describe each family member. This was a fantastic way for them to express themselves and share the unique traits and backgrounds that make their families special!
Get ready to groove, because our fourth graders are having a good time with an exciting dancing activity! They are expressing themselves through lively Spanish music, letting their creativity shine as they add their own personal twists to the dance moves. It was a celebration of fun, rhythm, and individuality!
Get ready for some serious style, because our awesome fifth graders are putting together their very own fashion show with their classmates! Each team is busy creating a short video that showcases their unique runway looks. They'll be describing their team's outfits in Spanish, from t-shirts and jeans to cool sunglasses and shoes, plus all the colors that make each design pop!
F.AVE Game Hawker Podcast S2, Ep 12
5th graders Grant & Silas discuss Laurie Halse Anderson's Forge, the second book of her Seeds of America trilogy. This story is from the perspective of Curzon, a Black soldier in the Revolutionary War. If you'd like, go back to Season 1 and hear Harley discuss the first book in the series, Chains.Click the image below to listen.

Love My Bus Month!
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to Love My Bus month by dropping off gift cards for bus drivers at the FAVE front office or having your kiddos deliver notes of kindness directly to their bus driver. If you'd like to contribute, there's still time! We will be collecting gift cards through Friday and those donations will be distributed to our fantastic bus drivers at an appreciation event next week.
Help us thank Ms. Nichols (Bus 2015), Ms. Maria (Bus 2005), Ms. Annette (Bus 2010), Ms. Sylvia (Bus 2006), and Mr. Joseph (Bus 2003) who get our kids safely to and from school everyday.
Congratulations to the 285 FAVE students who participated in Wednesday's Walk & Roll! We enjoyed seeing all the smiling faces of both students and parents enjoying the warm weather on their way to school. Kudos to the fifth grade who had the most participants of any grade with 119 walkers, cyclists and scooter riders.
Mark your calendar for next month - our next Walk & Roll is on Wednesday, March 5th, which is also officially Georgia Walk & Roll to School Day.
MEAD Rd. Mardi Gras
Save the Date! Mead Mardi Gras is back Saturday March 1st!
We will meet as a Krewe in front of the school starting at 12:15. Wear your best green, purple and yellow and flair to join Freddie the Falcon and march in the parade!

Tour deCatur Registration is Open!
Get ready, get set, get registered for Decatur Education Foundation's 23rd annual Tour deCatur! Sign up at www.tourdecatur.com!
The fun happens on Saturday, March 15, at the Decatur High School stadium. This year, in addition to the 5k (a Peachtree qualifier), the 1-Mile Fun Run, and the adorable Tot Trot (for our friends ages four and under), DEF is offering a "None-Run" for anyone who wants to support Decatur kids without breaking a sweat! This is DEF's largest fundraiser and supports programs and initiatives that remove obstacles, provide opportunities, support educators, and strengthen the Decatur community!
To prepare for the race, all K-2 elementary schools in the district are participating in the iRun program, which teaches students the fundamentals of fitness skills that make running, jogging, and walking enjoyable and safe and prepares them to run the one-mile fun run in March. For more information about DEF's initiatives and how you can get involved, please visit www.decatureducationfoundation.org.
