CPS Superintendent's Update
PERSEVERANCE * RESPECT * INTEGRITY * DEDICATION * EMPATHY
Superintendent's Update - 5.10.2024
Dear CPS Community,
The celebrations continued this week with National School Nurse Day on Wednesday, May 8th. Since 1972, National School Nurse Day has been set aside to recognize school nurses. These compassionate healthcare professionals play a crucial role in keeping students healthy, safe, and well-cared for while at school. Their expertise in providing first aid, managing chronic conditions, promoting wellness, and offering emotional support is truly commendable. National School Nurse Day was established to foster a better understanding of the role of school nurses in the educational setting. Please see the National School Nurse Day Proclamation on the National Association of School Nurses website. Thank you to all the school nurses for everything you do!
Continuing the recognition theme, I would like to wish all mothers and caregivers a “Happy Mother’s Day,” this Sunday, May 12th. Mother's Day is an opportunity to show appreciation and love in a way that is meaningful to mothers and caregivers. Whether it is through acts of service, words of affirmation, quality time, or thoughtful gifts, the most important thing is to show how much you love and appreciate your mother or caregiver for all they do.
If you are looking for something fun and different this weekend, it is not too late to get your tickets to watch the amazing singing talents at the 2024 Aca-Pocalypse event. Area A Cappella groups will be performing tonight and tomorrow to showcase their vocal skills including our very own student groups, The Crescendos and The Thursdays. This event is sponsored by The Association of Chelmsford A Cappella. Please see the flyer below to get your tickets. This event is sure to be a hit!
As we are heading into the last 22 days of the school year, please be on the lookout for important correspondence from the schools about transition information and end-of-year events. It is a busy time of year, as the schools are simultaneously wrapping up the current school year and preparing for the next. School staff are working hard to communicate all the important information you need including dates, times, and places to be. Please be sure to review the newsletters shared to keep you up-to-date with everything you need to know to successfully close out the school year.
Please enjoy this week’s highlights and have a wonderful weekend.
Yours truly,
Jay Lang, Ed.D.

Family School Feedback
CPS Family Survey Information
Dear Chelmsford Families,
Our district values your feedback! We are currently surveying The Chelmsford Public Schools families in order to gain insight into your perception of our school and district's effectiveness. We also want to better understand barriers to families accessing our schools and programs. To ensure we continue to provide high quality, rigorous learning experiences that meet the needs of our learners and prepare them for college and career, we need your feedback. We want to know what you think.
To administer these surveys, we have partnered with Panorama Education to conduct our 2024 Family Survey as we did in 2023 as well. Panorama safeguards your privacy, keeping your responses anonymous. The survey shouldn’t take more than a few minutes to complete and will be a valuable source of information for us as we work to make our schools and district as good as they can be.
You may complete the survey online between Wednesday May 8th until Friday June 14th using a computer, tablet, or smartphone by using this Family Survey Link.
If you have multiple CPS school-aged children, please feel free to fill out multiple surveys to represent each individual child’s experience. The first question on the survey will be a dropdown to select which school you are filling the survey out for.
We thank you in advance for your thoughtful responses. If you have any questions about the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact your building Principal.
Thank you in advance for your time and look forward to your feedback.

CHS Student Javelin Record Breaker
Chelmsford High sophomore Gable Gray smashes javelin records
Gable Gray isn’t one to throw caution to the wind. With javelin in hand, the Chelmsford High sophomore track standout is nothing but meticulous in his approach. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound track star wields the instrument with poise and precision. And when he unleashes the throw, a number of school records have fallen in its wake. Such was the case this past weekend at the Weston Twilight meet. Gray recorded a school-record effort of 199 feet, four inches, shattering the meet record, while eclipsing his own personal best milestone of 175 feet. The historic throw ranks him as the top high school javelin thrower in Massachusetts and 10th best in the nation. “It was unbelievable,” said Gray. “It was one of the greatest feelings I’ve ever felt. The week before I threw 192, but they messed up the measurement. So just to prove that I could throw that far was a great feeling.”
