Prayer Before Exams
Jesus, I invite you into this moment. Calm every anxious thought and quiet every fear.
You have given me the mind of Christ, clear, strong, and full of wisdom.
Remind me of everything I have studied, and guide my thoughts with your peace.
I lay down the pressure, the fear of failure, and the weight of expectations.
I trust you with the outcome, because you are faithful.
Holy Spirit, guide me through every question and every answer.
Let your presence go before me, be with me, and follow after me.
I rest in you, knowing I am a child of God.
AMEN.
Youth Night
Due to scheduling conflicts, we will not have Youth Night this month. Please continue to watch for updates in the bulletin and youth newsletter.
Uplift Your Priest!
“UPLIFT YOUR PRIESTS” CAMPAIGN IS FOR 2 WEEKS AFTER THE 2ND SUNDAY OF EASTER. Our priests are being called into great heroic action, all while pouring out an overabundant amount of love and support for all of us. Show your love and support to your priests by sending them a card, sending them a spiritual bouquet, invite them for dinner or take lunch or dinner to the rectory, pray for them, or send them a gift card. Without the priest there is no Eucharist. Without the Eucharist, there is no Church. Our priests are invaluable!
Remembering Pope Francis
1. Pope Francis was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on December 17, 1936, one of seven children. His parents were Italian immigrants — his father a railway worker, his mother a housewife.
2. Pope Francis had only one lung, after having one removed due to a respiratory illness in 1969.
3. Francis was the first Jesuit pope. Jesuits are followers of The Society of Jesus, an order of the Catholic Church formed in the 16th century. Typically Jesuits have reputations for scholarship — they run prestigious schools throughout the world — and evangelicalism, in the form of missionaries.
4. In fact, Francis was a pope of firsts — besides being the first Jesuit pope, he was the first pope from the New World, the first non-European pope since the eighth century, and the first to replace a living pope in more than 600 years.
5. In 2005, then-Cardinal Bergoglio reportedly garnered the second-most votes on each of the ballots of the 2005 papal conclave, which eventually elected Pope Benedict XVI.
6. Pope Francis spoke three languages fluently — Spanish, Italian and German. He addressed the crowd gathered in Saint Peter's Square in fluent Italian.
7. Francis was known for living simply. A member of the Jesuit order, which takes vows of poverty, Francis famously took public transportation in Buenos Aires, cooked his own meals, and lived in a small apartment. When he was appointed a cardinal in 2001, Bergoglio reportedly asked hundreds of Argentines to donate to the poor the money they had raised to fly with him to Rome.
8. Francis had a strong education background. Before joining the clergy, he earned a master's degree in chemistry from the University of Buenos Aires. He later earned a liberal arts degree in philosophy and taught literature and psychology in Argentine secondary schools.
9. The Argentine was a devotee of the majority-Catholic nation's other religion: soccer. Francis was a supporter of San Lorenzo, a club in Argentina's top league.
10. He was elected Supreme Pontiff, the 266th pope of the Catholic Church, on March 13, 2013.
The Conclave to elect a new Pope begins May 7th
O God, eternal shepherd,
who govern your flock with unfailing care,
grant in your boundless fatherly love
a pastor for your Church
who will please you by his holiness
and to us show watchful care.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever. Amen.
May Devotion - The Blessed Virgin Mary
Mary has a unique and privileged place in salvation history and in the Church. Because she responded yes to becoming the Mother of God, she is our first model of discipleship and our model of grace and trust in God.
Among Catholics, May is most well-known as “Mary’s Month,” a specific month of the year when special devotions are performed in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
