Groundbreaking, Excavation and Foundation Edition
December Progress Update
Welcome to the first rectory construction newsletter! These newsletters will come every few weeks as construction progresses to give a snapshot of what's happened and what's to come.
We held our ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday, November 23. The cold and damp day didn't darken the spirits of the more than 60 individuals present from our parish, city, diocese, and Payne & Payne Builders. The ceremony was spectacular and the excitement for the project was palpable! We were so blessed that the late Mike Payne Sr. was able to be present, saying a few words about his excitement for the project taking up a ceremonial shovel along with others.
Construction began in early December with the ground being prepared for excavation. The excavation phase began with making the sewer tie-in before digging the basement. Once the basement was excavated, the foundation crew poured the concrete footers, set up the basement wall forms and poured the cast walls, and worked on bracing, waterproofing, and backfilling. The framing phase of construction is next.
I hope these pictures help paint the picture for the work being done. The muddy mess of the area coats my shoes every time I try to get in for a close up! Enjoy this first edition of the Rectory Newsletter. I can't thank you enough for your interest, support, and prayers for this monumental project for our parish! We still have Prayer Plaque opportunities available if you're interested in contributing to ancillary rectory costs and other capital needs at the parish. Rectory Cornerstone
The cornerstone will be embedded in the brick in the front portico of the new rectory. I'm grateful to Marc F. Burr for providing the cornerstone for the new rectory!
Fr. Scott's Remarks
I offered a few remarks during the blessing ceremony. We wouldn't be here today without your support!
Mike Payne Sr. Remarks
Mike Payne Sr., who passed away on Christmas Day this year, was able to be at the groundbreaking ceremony to offer his remarks. How blessed we were for him to participate!
Diggers!
