What do we do if your kids already know it?
Hello Panther Parents,
All of our teachers are involved in something called Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). Like some other jobs being an educator is collaborative, especially at New Prospect. I expect all of our teachers to collaborate, plan together and work as a PLC to help ALL of our students. We do a lot of work to support our teachers with this expectation like professional development, giving them time to plan and making sure we hire with team dynamics in mind. It is my expectation that all students get an equitable education no matter whose class they are in. We accomplish this goal through our PLC work.
Our vision at New Prospect: Grow-Celebrate-Matter is accomplished through our PLC work. There are many many books and lots of research on PLCs that we all have studied as educators, but for a non-educator the best way to describe PLC is this: a team meets often (we meet about 2-3 times per week) and they share how their kids preformed after they taught something that they planned together. After that we ask ourselves these questions "Who learned it? And what are we going to do with them next?" and "Who didn't learn it and what are we going to do with them next?" This helps guide our planning and next steps with ALL students. We use lots of data to have these conversations. Some are formal assessments, some are informal, some count as a grade and some do not. We have a lot of supports in place for students who don't get it the first time and students who get it the first time. Most of these things occur in small group instruction. We have small group instruction in reading, writing and math. So your child is getting instruction on their specific level planned with other teachers based on research based PLC work....cool right?
Please let me know if you have any questions as I can talk about this for days:).
Hope you have a great rest of your week!
